I want this!

$15k for a truck with a shitty gutless indirect injection diesel that gets to 60 in roughly an hour? That diesel doesn't even have a turbo if I'm not mistaken. Pretty sure they suffer from cracked heads often too.

Maybe so, I know nothing of that engine. If true, it's not the norm for Standard or TD's. Most diesels are known to be bulletproof given the block specs required.

Double checked. The cracked head issues affect the 2L variant. Even then, this thing would suck to drive. I drove the newer 1KZ variant which has more displacement and a turbo. It was a gutless pig. I'm sure it is bulletproof, but you see 5VZs and 3RZs setting milestones all the time. At least those can get out of their own way. Now the diesel you want is the 1KD. They can be found in most 2000+ trucks if I'm not mistaken.

The later diesel tech does make a great deal of difference. Father used to have a old benz 240D, I could have walked to the store faster.

I love the fact our engines are setting milestones but the performance also leaves 'a bit' to be desired. Again, the new tech helps a lot. Are they even putting a V8 in the 5th gens?

I'm comparing these engines with others sold alongside them during the same time period. When you look at these gasoline engines relative to their era, they are pretty damn good. Of course comparing to something new will make them feel slow by comparison. Drive one of those older diesels and you'll see the type of performance that leaves a bit to be desired. 5th gens are only V6. It's supposed to be good but the bullshit tree hugger throttle mapping kills it.

Yea, I hear ya. Would never say this over there but I drove a 5th gen loaner (not mine, a friend who was having his Camry worked on) and I didn't like them at all.

Again we are talking about motors built in the 90's. That diesel has about 90hp. Not fun at all on our highways.
