I want to carry fuel cheaply/safely, but how?

Buying a rear bumper with swing outs just isn't in the books.

How do you guys carry spare fuel if you don't have a rear bumper? I love Inv4drzim's DIY swingouts, but I don't have the space/equipment/knowhow to take on such a project.

Rotopax bolted to the factory roof rails seems okay, but mounting/dismounting the fuel and it being above my head is disconcerting when considering spills or accidents (maybe I'm ignorant). I considered bolting rotopax mounts to the hatch to carry fuel on the exterior of the hatch, but fear that corrosion/water/weight will get the best of the truck in just about any kind of scenario.

I would love any/all plausible suggestions for carrying spare fuel on a 4th gen T4R if anyone has any. The CHEAPER the solution is always better!

I am deterred from using hitch baskets for them worsening my departure angle for the kinds of driving I do recreationally.

Yes, for like 2k? Might as well get a rear bumper w/ swingout for that. For our trips my brother is going to mount some rotopax on his aftermarket roof rack along with other gear. If I have time I might make a bracket to attach rotopax to my swingout or strap/mount cans somehow to the sides of my spare tire. Without the spare tire under my hatch, I could mount something more hidden under there as well.

But without a swing-out carrier, your easiest and cheapest option is likely laying a rotopax flat across the stock roof rack. They say you can put the rotopax inside the truck but not sure I would trust it.

That 4gal looks slimmer than I thought. This looks good. Still gonna see if I can squeeze one near the spare underneath too. Thanks.

That doesn't seem like a great spot, especially if you go wheeling. One good whack and that rotopax is toast.
