I used Duplicolor wheel paint (from Autozone). Sand well. Apply a couple of coats of primer. Paint ~3 coats. Clear coat, if you wish. Mine's holding up very well.

Have them powder coated if you want a good durable finish, the paint will flake off and not last like powder coat will, just my input, just depends what you wanna spend, paint=about 25 dollars to do all the wheels, powder coated will be about 50-80 a wheel. good luck

Are you speaking from experience or just guessing? I do agree with you to an extent, although I think your post is somewhat misleading.

I have had my wheels painted for over a year now and they have held up very well in on/off road driving. Powdercoating will last much longer and be more durable yes, but the paint just isn't going to flake off . Do it right and it will result in a good finish that will last much longer than you might think.

To add to that, no matter what the finish is, if/when you scrape it against a rock, curb, debris, etc., the finish will scratch and come off. With the spray painted wheel, simply retouch the area. It will be more expensive with the powder coated wheel to redo it.

true but to an extent i good powdercoating will withstand scratches and also how thick of a coating also will make the difference in scratching

add a picture when you're finished. i have the same color combination and have been debating if black wheels will look stupid with green and tan? i was thinking about graphite too.

Oh, yeah, I'm not debating that at all. Powdercoating is definitely better in all aspects (IMO) than spray paint, except for that cost issue. Your 4Runner looks sick, BTW, except for that first pic where you went crazy with the Armorall.

hahaz yeah the armorall wasnt my idea the wife took it to the car wash after she accidentally spilled food on the runner.

thanks guys those pics aren't as recent i will try to take some soon as i can. I have added black westin Nerf bars and actually had the hood scoop wrapped in flat black vinyl. sigh its my second money pit as this is my first here...

Black wheels fits some trucks but it's too common on most Jeeps/4wds you see in Colorado to make me want to do mine.
