The axle shafts in the solid axle tube would spin when it received input to the front differential from the forward shaft. In the picture below the only thing that you would see spinning would be the rotors, the knuckles that held the rotors and the wheel studs and the joints right behind the knuckles that connect it all to the shaft inside the tube.
You wouldn't have your ADD anymore, if that's what you're asking. Most guys use a pre-86 Toyota axle which has manual hubs. Your shift linkage to the transfer case doesn't change, but you'd lose the vacuum actuator to the front diff, and would need to lock the hubs in manually in addition to shifting to 4wd.
