I was talking to my buddy today about what cars I'm looking for. I told him I was looking into a 1st gen Tacoma or a 3rd gen 4runner. He laughed at me and said, "how are you going to get girls in something that was from the 90s? Its almost 2012 you need something more up to date". In my mind I was like, wtf? But, I'm the kind of guy that really doesn't want to start any confrontation unless its really needed. Damn that dude made me mad. Thats the problem with a lot of people in my area. Very materialistic. They gotta have the newest car or somehow they're not in the in crowd lol.

Where at in Kansas were you though? Where I live is one of the richest counties in the country, and it's nothing but BMW, Mercedes and Audi's. (not bragging, it sucks sh!t) tons of douches that think they deserve everything.......

Well I know the biggest chick magnet cars I ever owned were my 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo and oddly enough my even older 1966 VW Crewcab Surf wagon.

So age of the vehicle has little to do with it and I lived in Newport Beach Ca at the time.

I have a gorgeous wife and I drive a 97 4Runner with almost 200K miles on it. And easy on the BMW's guys, I have one of them too. But it's a 2000 also with a lot of miles on it, not worth much at all but it's fun to drive, 540i/6speed with "a few mods."

OP, the day you start letting your friends tell you what to drive is a very sad day. I make a pretty good living, my 2 cars combined might be worth $10K. I have an average house, nothing crazy. And best of all, other than my mortgage I have no debt. The 3rd Gen 4Runner and 1st Gen Taco's are both great vehicles, pretty much bullet proof, they're fun and IMO, they look good. Buy what you're going to buy for you, not for your buddy.

BMW are great vehicles but when I see an 18 yo in an M3 it does kind of piss me off.

Thats what they are, I called the defender a car, i called the Ram 1500 a car, it really doesnt matter.

Back on topic, I never really see a correlation between new cars and guys with girlfriends, and i live in a rather nice area....

lol you know what that dude is a freakin idiot, man i hate people. I would rather have a vehicle thats a little bit older than a new one any day of the week. New cars always have problems, not only that the aftermarket world does not catch up until a few years after the vehicle is released. I could buy an older vehicle, completely rebuild it and "build it" the way i want it, and for the most part its cheaper than a new one, and guess what no 400 payment. You are headed in the right direction, believe me the newest vehicle i have owned is a 2002, and that was new to me when i bought it in 2008, 6 years old, if i were you look for the 3rd gen 4runner or the newer body style tacoma, and build the heck out of it, and when your friend sees it and his jaw hits the floor, then tell him thats how you are gonna pick up the women.

That is the main reason I want to leave California, the problem is all the great things that are just a short drive for me to enjoy. Also I agree with buy what is good for you and not your buddy. If he doesnt like it then he doesnt have to get a ride from you.

Well, a lot of 12+ year old cars look just that. That's the beauty of a good design. Timeless. People (usually girls and others who aren't into cars) are always shocked when I tell them that mine is from 2001.

meh, another stereo type from someone who has obviously has never been very popular with the ladies, most girls don't care what you drive, i mean it helps, but when your in a bar chatting some nice bit of tottie up she has no idea what you drive and if you start talking about your car then, your a douche bag, and they know right away, if you want chicks you should be more concerned with how you come across and who your are then what sort of car your driving, hell man, i got more women in my life when i didn't even own a car then when i did, of course being a surf and ski instructor in a vacation destination helps, but i was still walking to all of my dates...anyways, dudes a tool obviously and have known many like him, still do, i'm married to the best girl a guy could ever hope for and my buddies like that are still dating trash who just keep getting uglier as we get older.... life is long my friend, choose quality over quantity in this department and you wont regret it :girl::hatsoff:

that's sad, i used to live in OB about 10 years ago or so and the place was still laid back surfer chill, sure every now and again you'd get the frat boy douche bag types raiding the beach on holidays and random weekends from the uni, but it wasn't terrible, still had my beach cruiser,surf board and a bunch of guys waiting for the next growler....has it really gotten that bad, SD was some of the best times in my life....
