I got a RTIC a few weeks ago. Great quality cooler. Yeti was cool a while ago, but now they have a lot of competition and are too over priced to compete.

I guess that's why they just filed for an IPO.:biggrin1: 'Expensive' doesn't mean 'not competitive'. Their sales performance is phenomenal and I don't think they're going to fall by the wayside anytime soon.

I went and saw them all yesterday, except the rtic. Although i am leaning toward rtic and canyon because of the price, I really liked the grizzly over the yeti, pelican, and kysek.

Have a Pelican 65qt and absolutely LOVE IT. It's built like a tank, will keep ice for days on end, and their customer service is top notch. I called for a few replacement parts (rubber feet on the bottom)... they took my info and said I would hear from them shortly. A few days later I had a package in the mail with all new feet and some stickers...I also like the Pelican latches over the others simply because they are secure once you lock them down.. They are good to go.

yes, they are plastic. They are a positive lock too, so you can feel when they are latched. I've had mine for a few years with continual use all summer on the beach fishing and parties. The latches still function and feel like they did the day I brought it home.

I really liked my Pelican. It worked really well, but was freaking HUGE and consistently was outperform by my friend's Yeti. I "upgraded" to the Yeti MOSTLY due to size, but also after having had to (on multiple occasions) replenish my ice on trips more than once, while my friend would just keep trucking along.

My thoughts as a comparison...
My wife and I LOVED the Pelican latches. In fact, my wife liked them so much that she complains about the Yeti latches every time she uses them it seems. On the up side (for her) it gives her something to complain about.

I LOVE the Yeti's size. The Pelican when all loaded up was a freaking behemoth and I would typically ask my wife for help with loading it into the back of the 4Runner (I have an 8" tall platform in the back and the back is lifted nearly 5"). With the Yeti, my wife is able to lift it into the back on her own.

Also, I like to have my cooler loaded lengthwise along the rear cargo panels so I can drain the water if needed without taking it out of the vehicle. Also, my ratchet straps work better with it loaded this way. With the Pelican I could not do this without folding down the back seats. With the back seats down it would hang over the edge of my platform a few inches, so I had to build ANOTHER little platform for it. The Yeti fits in there with the seats in their upright position.

Full disclosure: I got great deals on both coolers. The Pelican through Costco (and returned for a full refund two years later) and the Yeti through REI w/ 20% off, and my annual dividend.

All in all, for me PERSONALLY the Yeti is a much better fit for my needs. However, if you don't have a big ol' platform in the back of your 4Runner, the Pelican is a great buy.

(I looked HARD at RTIC back in January or so and they had their ship date as late JULY. Had it been more reasonable, I would have purchased that thing on the spot. Of course now that I have my Yeti I have no heard of a single person actually waiting more than a month or two.

I have heard a COUPLE complaints on the internet about RTIC's products, but who knows if they're true/honest. This is the internet.)

For what it's worth, for the price of an extreme cooler you can realistically spring for something like an Indel B 12v fridge and come out ahead. At the recommended 2:1 ice/product ratio, an Indel B 50 fridge is equal to about a 160 qt cooler (50-liter product + 100-liter ice) in a MUCH smaller size. And it's cheaper than a Yeti 160. The only issue is a reliable power source.

Same for an Indel B 30 and a Yeti 75 or Yeti 105 (equal to a 95 quart).

I went through this a couple months ago. My business partner has a Yeti, I have used it many time and was planning to buy the same thing. I went to Cabela's and saw a huge display for their new cooler. It was considerable less money so I bought one.

On a recent trip we used the Yeti and Cabela's coolers. They kept ice about the same amount of time. It is hard to say one is better than the other since we did not keep track of how many times the coolers were opened.

In any case, I have no regrets.

I bought my first Yeti (65) in college, wanting something "name brand" to tailgate with. I doubt I'll ever get rid of it, but I'll only buy RTIC from now on. It really is just as good for half the price.

Duh. Doesnt bring the street cred like YETI though so it's sitting in my sticker stack in my garage.




Funny (kinda related) story... my buddy bought a pair of clearance socks from Backcountry.com just so he could have their goat decal for his car. They didn't send one so he called to get a return label for the socks and when they asked why he was returning it, he told them because he just wanted a sticker. They sent him +25 goat stickers (with the return label). Haha.

Love my Grizzly cooler. Performs like a champ and built like a rock. Made in the USA. Need I say more
