ICON 2.5 coilovers on V8s

How well does the ICONs handle the v8 weight? Im going to buy some extended travel 2.5 resi's here soon and want to know how they hold up with the v8. My walker evans i had to crank a ton to get decent height out of them. Im running them still but wanted to see what peoples preload looked like with ICONs on the v8s and what their front measurement was.

My goal is to keep 39 3/4 or 40" height but not sacrafice ride with the ICONs.

Good thread. Debating if I need 700 lb coils. Curious to see what people have done with the 650's.

whats your tire size, fender height from the ground and the amount of threads showing via pic of the coilover.

Also, whats your overall opinion on how they support the weight.

40" is going to be largely affected by your tire size, tire pressure, etc. If you want to measure from the hub center, you can get a more consistent measurement from user to user. For example, I've got a total of 37.5" with my icons but I'm running stock tires still. If I got a bigger tire I could probably hit 40". I'm 22.5" from hub center.

ill measure from center of mine. Thats why i asked for tire size.

I run a 285/70/17 w/ 35psi and im around 39 3/4" with where im at now. Id love to maintain this height. Ill get hub to fender to be a little easier.

So I just ran out and tried to get the photos you asked for. I'm running 265/70r17 nitro terras on 7.5" wide rims at about 75% tread. It seems as though both sides ground to fender are about 37 3/4" +/- 1/8", and both sides hub center to fender are about 22 5/8". The first of each photo is the driver's side and the second is the passenger's side.

I love the ride of the fronts on the road. They seem to soak up everything really easily, and rode super nice at pismo with a little bit of speed. The rear is what I'm having trouble dialing in to my liking.

I would just go with the 2.5's and 700 lbs. You might have a little stiffer ride, but you won't have to worry about it sagging too much. Plus I'm assuming you'll get aftermarket skids at some point which will only sag it more.

I haven't noticed any sag since they've been installed, but to be honest, I don't remember there starting numbers.

I would also recommend springing for the cdc adjusters. I wish they would have had them when I purchased the coil overs. I've heard amazing things, and will be upgrading when I need to get them rebuilt.

Finally, don't pay for a special spanner wrench. The best thing I've found to do was install them at factory length (or shorter) and then use the appropriately sized punch (5 Piece Long Drive Pin Punch Set) to crank them up.

im already buying them just wanted to see what to anticipate. He gets his new Fox's the 28th then the Icons are mine.
