Icon 2.5 Piggyback rear shocks hitting the sway bar!!!!

I'm still wondering why these are better than my Landcruiser shocks I have in the rear as part of my SS 1.2 kit ???????

I've had my truck lifted now with LC shocks for 6+ years and I've gone everywhere with my current rear setup.

I have nothing but great things to say. And each shock is like $60. I feel like it is the perfect setup.

For rock crawling/slow driving you are fine with the land cruiser shocks.

Why sell the fronts. They work fine. No?

I'd send them the rears and when they send you the replacement rears just sell those.
The front coilovers are fine but I don't want to deal with Icon anymore.

They wont give me a replacement, and I don't need a replacement anyways. Why? Because I will have the same problem in the future and this is taking up too much of my time already. I just want them to fix the problem and not talking to me like I have no clue what I'm talking about "if you are reading this you know who you are". If they choose not to correct the problem for me, I will return the shocks and get my money back and maybe look into something else.

I have the same rear shocks. I tightened them up and drove on them for a couple weeks. I went our to occotillo and the same thing happened. They turned. I turned them back and continued to drive without issue. When I got home I tightened them again and haven't had an issue since. They are great shocks. I love them. You are going to get scratches on them. It goes with the territory. When I get them rebuilt I'm going to get the cdc valve put on.

wow seems like lots of people having problems with Icon Lately. they have screwed up my stuff a few times already and i am really starting to lose faith in the brand. they couldn't even figure out to build my CDC Valve external resi's like Masson74's and on top of that they built them without CDC Valves and shipped them to the wrong address so now i have to wait even longer on my rear shocks. im upgrading from the Piggyback by the way.

As far as the piggybacks i have never had a problem with them hitting the sway bar since i owned them, and i also have a thicker addco sway bar as well. so i completely disagree with every one that says they are having a problem.

OP is your sway bar still running the stock length end links? if yess this may be why you are having this issue. as the bar is in the incorrect location which allows it to contact the piggy back resi.

i was looking into that route as well but the cost to upgrade them they said it is better off buying new shocks and selling the piggy backs that is why i have done this or elso i would have just saved my self the trouble and converted.

It has nothing to do with the sway bar or stock links. I tightened my shock really good and the resi is facing the wheel under the frame. I had them on for 2 months and I love them. They never moved even after I jumped the truck because the bushings were in dry condition. The shocks moved around very easy when it is in wet condition. I know the shocks will get scratches from normal and off road use but this is unacceptable.

Were you wheeling in wet condition when the shocks move around

if it has nothing to do with the sway bar then why are you stating that it is hitting the sway bar then? it just rained here in socal pretty hard and i did not hve any issues with my resis moving.even if they did they would not hit my sway bar since im am using the 2nd gen 4runner links which are an inch longer than the 3rd gen ones have you tried that?

i was playing around in the mud in the rain at azusa canyons with no issues.

It the reservoir getting the hit from the sway bar not the shock body and Masson74 had the same problem that's why he is running the remote resi.

as i stated i have never had an issue with the resi hitting as long as you lengthen the end links on the rear bar to bing the sides of the sway bar down to the correct location. if you guys didnt swap out to longer links i can see that being your issue.

even with the longer end links the axle still move up and down you will still get hit either from the sway bar or LCA. It the shock that is known to rotate around, look at the piggyback for 2nd gen Icon discontinued them and replace it with remote resi.

Thanks for the reminder to install an anti-rotation device on my rear Icons! I was aware of the potential for them to rotate based on the design.

I need to get back under there and come up with something. Intended to do it right after the install, but 9 months have passed...

Mine haven't rotated, but the potential damage if they do is huge. I also intended to make some mounts to use modified dirt bike fork leg shields to protect the shock shafts, so time to get on that as well.

I returned them and got my money back and their customer service is terrible and shocks failed twice with less than 3 months on the 4runner. First incident the shock busted after driving on the road for 5 minutes. Took it back to Icon for a rebuilt ( Didn't even offer to ship it back to them but oh well) and one started to leak slowly after 2 months, and I would hearing grinding noise everytime I drove past a speed bump. I thought it was my links bushing going bad but what I found was the shock leaking from the manifold that connects to the reservior. It was the worst week I ever had didnt drive my 4runner for almost a week.
