ICON shaft squeak

Installed ICONs COs about a week ago. Ride nice...

Washed truck today and noticed they started squeaking. Not real loud, but could be heard at low speeds with windows down.. I hit the lower shaft with a little lube and it pretty much went away. Anyone else experience the squeaky shaft on ICONs. For this kind of money they should sing a song LOL

The shafts shouldn't make noise, it is usually the spherical bearings at the top and especially the bottom of the shock. When they wear out they get really, really noisy. I buy them in bulk from Summit Racing COM10T. Well, what do you know, they are on sale now for $7, usually $12, think I'll order a dozen.
 
Lubing the shaft definitely eliminated about 90% of the noise.

These are brand new, Maybe 30 miles on them. They may just need to break in and the first wash took away some factory lube.

You could only hear this noise if you were listening for it while driving, but if I stood on my sliders and rocked the truck back and forth, you could hear lots of squeaking.

Wait, I am OCD about noises on my bikes......:redbrick: So maybe I am OCD. :lol:

Tomorrow will be the first time I hit the trails with the ICONs on it. Hopefully it will all be good.

Well that stinks, my OMEs were silent with no maintenance whatsoever. ;-( I guess I'll have to see how loud it is to see if is a deal breaker for me. So far I like the way it drives on the road, and the tiny amount of offroad I did felt great.

Which icons did you get? this is worrisome as I ordered the 58747's for the front and the IVD 57810CP for the rear... hoping it doesn't require so much maintenance as everyone is saying especially for the price!

Not sure what UVAs are.

If you meant UCAs, no, but I don't see how that would have anything to do with the shock squeaking.

And just to clear this up for anyone worried.... It is not loud. Nothing you could hear inside the truck while driving... It was just a new sound that I had never heard before.

These are the 2.5 non piggy back model, but I'm pretty sure they are the exact same thing as the other ones minus the external res for more oil capacity.

Had Icons on my FJC for 70k, never had them rebuilt and they were still quiet. Let them break in some. You should be fine!

Exactly. They can make some noise but not an irritating nor extremely loud noise. I only notice when all the windows are down and I'm trying to listen for noises. Otherwise, nothing. My recommendation for lube was simply to keep them clean and well lasting. Any time you have moving parts, a little lube saves a lot of maint. Also, it will depend on normal driving conditions. In CA, I am not subject to harsh road conditions daily like those in other states.
 
I have fr/Rr Icons on 2 vehicles for 5 years now. Neither make any noise. Dry silicone lube the shafts and bushings every once in a while for good measure.

I will recommend, from personal experience, that you run a shock boot on the rear shock shafts so that you don't end up pitting the shaft from gravel/tire spray while running in the dirt. I had to replace the shafts on my Tundra rears from hammering them too hard with road spray.

+1 on the shock boots. Gravel pits the shafts and ruins the seals, even with their "shinguard." I got some universal silicone boots from amazon.

Can you elaborate on the Shock boots you purchased?
Maybe a link if possible!!! .... lots of shocks don't come with boots and they are definitely worth the additional price up front!

i wish i had known about adding a set of boots to the rears sooner. i have the shin guards, but will be adding some universal boots this spring when i rotate my tires.
