Icon Stage 2 Install prices?

So my icon stage 2 came in and I'm looking around for a shop to do the Install. Can anyone tell me how long shops usually take to do the Install?

I'd like to know for a reference point when I'm calling different shops. One place I called said around 8-9 hours with alignment. So at $100/hour labor I'm looking at around $1000 after taxes.

Does this sound reasonable? I have a 2016 trail with KDSS. Thanks in advance.

Seems right.

I am sure that a bunch of people will likely post saying that is too much and that they did it for $350 cause they knew a guy, but honestly that is about right based on my pricing here at multiple shops. A tip though, wait on the lift a bit (I know you are pumped to get it on), and if you are going to upsize the tires do it at the same time as the lift install. You can save money on labor time and alignment that way.
 
I know its not everyone's cup of tea but I am just going to say it. For that price, buy the tools, bum a garage from a friend, bribe a small local mechanic or dealer tech and be involved with it. It will be far cheaper and very satisfying to have done and to understand the system for future trouble shooting...rebuilds, squeaks etc.


There maybe forum members in your area willing to lend a hand (not just 5th gen owners but all gens)
 
Very well worth it, lots of knowledge to be gained. Its more intimate between me and the rig now!

Not the OP, but I work 50+ hours a week. I can't have my vehicle in pieces for a whole week if something unexpected comes up on the Sunday I want to install it.

And how exactly do you "bum a garage"? I don't think I know a single person with a garage well enough to "bum" it off them

Thats fair, and your priorities are not mine, and mine are not the OP's what everyone chooses to spend time and money on is their own choice but I try to encourage and give confidence to everyone I meet and give advise that many tasks they think are to big to DIY are not. I was taught how to learn and that no one will do as good of a job for me as I can do for myself so I try to pass that along. I realize not everyone is able to do everything (nor am I) but the bar seems to be set really low these days.

It does not take a week to do a suspension install, and once you acquire skills (won't acquire unless you try) there isn't much that would keep it down for a week either, life is full of unexpected events, deal with them, learn from them, move on. Rent a car, bum a ride from the wife or friends etc

Your standard to ask for help is much much higher then mine. Co-workers, church friends, gym friends, neighbors, relatives, bar friends, tinder dates (kidding)..... hell forum friends! Someone has to has to have a garage. This is a suspension install not a month long engine swap taking up the entire garage leaking fluids everywhere.
 
I have a Toyota Dealership that does a lot of work on Tacoma's, Tundra's and 4runners. Had a Icon stage 1 with SPC UCAs installed and alignment they quoted about $700 with alignment if I remember correctly to get all that done, they also ordered the Icon and SPC set up from them so they tried to be reasonable with install.
 
I was quoted 478 for a lift install and alignment at a place in Ft Worth, and I don't know anyone there. I may rent a lift at a rent a lift place for 20/hour and do it myself. I can't believe it would take a decent shop more than 3 hours to install a lift. I replaced the suspension on my last car in 4 hours by myself in an apartment parking garage with jack stands. And I don't do suspension work weekly like a shop would.
 
It would probably take 3-6 hours of labor if you're not doing wheels and tires at the same time. Depending on your area, $500-1000 for installation plus alignment is about right.

My father in law has a garage with a lift. He's retired and likes working on cars -- that's how I bum one :laugh:

I just did my suspension on my 4th gen last weekend. Started Saturday around noon and finished around midnight. That's including eating dinner with the fam and running all around on a snowy day trying to find a strut compressor because the non compressor method just wasn't working out. I ended up using a free rental from advanced auto.

In my experience, working on cars never goes as easy as it could, but unless you do something really boneheaded, it's not going to prevent you from finishing the task at hand. I really dig it, and there is no doubt that it is very rewarding looking back at your vehicle knowing it was all you.
 
$350 including alignment- I also bought my Toytech Boss with SPC UCA from the same shop- all done at same time. Dropped off at 9 picked up at 4:30 LIft and UCA cost less then buying direct.

This is about what I ran into for installing it. Like most, I work long hours as well, make good $ and I'm I'm getting old. But, it's such a straight forward install, I could never imagine paying anyone that kind of $ to do it. I did mine in about 5 hours, fumbling around in the dark, and enjoyed a great evening. Just my $.02
 
Billings Montana Toyota dealership is installing my Icon Stage 2, mounting and balancing 33s on TRD wheels and doing my alignment all in one day for $550. My appointment is January 2nd.

At the time, I was quoted about 700 from demello without buying the suspension from them. That didn't include alignment and I'm sure that didn't include tax either.

Luckily for me, had a cousin help me out and did it for free.
 
Just got a quote from a higher end shop for my lift install. They said $770 including alignment and strut assembly. My kit has 4 Bilstein 5100's, SPC UCA's and Toytec coils. 2WD and no KDSS.

You're right, it won't take them longer than that especially if they have an experienced tech. But they are still going to charge whatever the manufacturer says the install time is. That's how they make their money.

If I was the OP I would check Icon's install instructions and see if they list an approximate install time. If it's not listed, give ICON a call and ask. Then it just comes down to whatever their shop rate is. Here in Denver it ranges anywhere from $80-120/hr.

Might be different in some states, but here in Colorado they can't tax labor. They can only tax parts.

I know a guy that did the install for $280 and it took him less than 4 hours.That also included the alignment. I called different shops around my area and they quoted me $700 (Firestone tires) another 4x4 shop quoted $800 plus alignment. I highly suggest finding a tech and paying him on the side on his convenience to save a few bucks.

With how low the CAD is right now I think $1000 seems very reasonable. That's like $740 for us southerners.
