Today I received, via the magic brown delivery truck, the Metal Tech ICON Stage 2 lift with LR UCA's. WHOOHOO!

Ok, now go with tips and tricks for the install!

Ok, I've got the beer part covered...plenty of experience installing beer into my system. Only lift I need after that is a lift off the floor!

I've done lots of suspension work on 3rd gens...but never UCA or anything on the 5th gen...pretty straightforward? Nothing to watch out for or special socket sizes to have, etc...?

Make sure you pre-grease the urethane UCA bushings before installing. They never seem to get enough from the zerk fittings. Oh, and while you're at it, tighten those zerks to where they face OUT where you can get a grease gun on them. I had to use some thin washers as shims to get it to snug up in the right orientation.

If they don't include the uni-ball covers, I suggest getting them to keep the junk from wearing them out, causing squeaks, etc. I actually put grease in the cavity, then put the caps on. (Even thought they say not to!) It keeps the water from getting up in there and rusting them.

Make sure you lift the vehicle much higher than needed to get the stock suspension off the ground... or you won't be able to get the wheels back on without reshuffling the deck post-install.

Get some kind of protection on the rear shock pistons, especially if you drive a lot of gravel roads. Mine got eat up quick here in the southwest and actually had to be rebuilt in under 4000 miles (free under the warranty). You can use the cheap generic covers that slip on, or spring for the stainless guards on their site. (can be installed later)

Can't recall any special tools, it's pretty straightforward as previously mentioned.

Have fun!

Here's a before picture of how the rig sits today. Hopefully I'll do a better job of documenting the install than I've done on past installs. I've never had much help which makes taking pictures very difficult for me. I'm usually in a big hurry too, I'm assuming because I really don't know what I'm doing and it makes me nervous.

UCA's are easy, there is a great Total Chaos YouTube video that walks you through it. Very helpful to have a second set of hands...

When I got my first 3rd gen, I had to fix the rear coil sag which led me to this site and ended up with the rig pictured. Picked up a new hobby, made lots of new friends and saw a lot of new cool places that I'd probably have never seen otherwise...the Toyota obsession began with sagging rear coils.

Now, this 2015 has a nose dive when you hit the brake pedal and it must be fixed...I wonder where this will end up! Hopefully many more new friends, new adventures, new and exciting places, and good memories. Thanks guys and gals for the pointers. I'll do my best to let you know how this turns out!

I'll chime in, this forum has helped me out more than enough times to count. I'll echo what others have said though, it'll pay off in the long run to spend some time understanding how your truck works. If you install all of this yourself you'll be way ahead of the curve at the end.

It'll be a breeze Micah. I know a lot of 3rd gen guys don't run a front sway bar and it makes removing the coil overs very fast and simple (not sure if you run your 3rd gen this way or not). But when you're istalling the 5th gen lift, make sure you disconnect the front sway bar(you'll have to to install the relocate brackets anyways). And using a cheap tie rod puller is also very helpful. The UCA's shouldn't give you too much trouble. The 3rd gen LR UCA's have a slug adapter that you have to press into the spindle. The 5th gen ones won't need any press work or anything like that. If you have a hard time accessing the long through bolt from the wheel well you can reach it from the engine bay also. My wife and I just bought a '16 SR5. I'm excited to get that lifted too!

Thanks Jeff, I do run the 3rd gen with the front sway bar disconnected, but only because the links broke while wheeling and I never fixed it!

I'm getting more confident the more I hear how seemingly easy it is. Thanks for the confidence boost!

P.S. I'm headed to CO with it right after labor day...hope to see you guys!
