Identify Missing Screw from Engine !

Ok so I noticed my engine bay is really dirty & a friend identified the oil leak which should be coming out of this hole in the pic. Anyone know what size screw & or washer needs to go in there ?

that missing bolt doesn't have anything to do with your oil leak. It's just a point for a mounting bracket. it's missing on both my 4runners too and no leak. put a flashlight on it and you'll see it's not open through. that being said if you wanted to put a bolt in there I'd start with a M6x1.00 or M8x1.25... the ignition coil bolts are m6x1.00 so you could try one of those real quick before buying both.

Agreed. Oil leaks generally flow down, not up. Look at the highest place on the engine where the oil is, and you should find your leak. Additionally, if that were the source of the leak, the threads wouldn't be shiny.

Actually I just stuck a long skewer into the hole and it went all the way down into the deep abyss. The wet spots on the rubber pipe right above the hole makes it look very much like it came from the hole.

ok. I'm not sure what to say other than that hole is not the source of your oil leak. Good luck to you.

That is the mounting bracket hole for the factory intake, which you obviously do not have due to where the MAF is located and the lack of the factory airbox (at least it seems like that from that picture.) I don't recall ANY of those bolt holes being drilled all the way through the valve cover which is slightly worrying. I doubt that's the source of your leak, it wouldn't be clean vs. everywhere else; though it is possible that the hose has rubbed it clean.

In any case its just a little bolt, just take any 10mm head bolt off from some non-critical part of the car and stick it in there or match it up.

If you put your finger over it while the truck is idling, do you feel it pulling vacuum (or sucking down) on your finger? If yes, then it is open to the valve cover. If not, then you just found out you have a magic skewer. :biggrin2:

yes it came out covered in oil, clean oil. i want to go to a toyota dealer & rip apart their trucks to match it up

You could clean it off and see where the oil reappears from. Or, get a cork. :thumb:
