Identifying potential odometer rollback

This is not how I wanted to start my morning. I'm camping in the mountains tonight so went to the local dealership for the first time to have the radiator serviced. There were some inconsistencies in the records so he pulled the Carfax. I was under the impression this truck has 129xxx original miles, but in 2010 it was reported to have 224k. Afterwards it was sold to dealer and auctioned, where there is a warning for potential odometer rollback.

I am pretty paranoid at the moment. I'm almost sure the previous owner did not know about this as he and I still stay in touch but haven't heard back from him on this yet.

I'm very paranoid because I am set to install the supercharger in a couple weeks. And the 130k platform I had could very well be 260k. I remember checking his Carfax when I bought it and I do not remember seeing a mention of it there. I kindly doubt the guy who sold it to me has knowledge of this.

At best, when it was sold at auction maybe the engine was replaced and they wanted to show the accurate mileage of the new engine. I need to find out if the engine or tranny have vin markings on them and go from there.

Any thoughts or insight? Besides slight rust and some paint blemishes the truck has ran near perfect. And the amount of time I've put into this makes me hesitant to make a move, but have considered getting an identical platform and swapping everything over. But 130k and 230k are 2 very different things, especially when it comes to maintenance. I feel so lost right now haha. Any recommendations I'd be happy to hear.

Throw the supercharger on it and keep on trucking. Whenever you go to sell it make sure you are open and up front with the buyer. Even give them a copy of the carfax.

As long as you have every reason to believe the rig is mechanically sound, do it. I supercharged mine at 250k and have driven it 6k miles since with no issues or regrets.

So the carfax shows no mention of a false odometer reading? It could have just been the dealer messing something up. My 87 Supra has 91k miles. When I sign into the Toyota Owners website it shows a dealer here having put my mileage in as 120k when I went in to get a quote for a replacement clutch. Your's could just be a scenario like that.

How would the odometer be rolled back?
Would it involve installing one from a lower mileage vehicle?
Or, can you reprogram it somehow?

Well that sucks. I don't know what to tell you. There should be a pretty big visual difference between those mileages with stuff like interior wear and tear, unless it's a super clean higher mileage truck.

Call that dealer's service department and explain the situation. See if they can pull the original repair orders and confirm the mileage anywhere on them.

Called them first thing and they read the same service dates and mileage that I read on Carfax. Guess the writing is on the wall I just do not understand how the car could have been sold to dealer and had the odometer rolled back before being sold. Total bull
