Makes sense if you have a couple of kids, or work out of your car/truck but other than that, it is useless.
(I owned one of those vehicles for a few months and never used the wifi).

I hate electrical junk. The more integrated circuits the more problems. Not to say things haven't improved since I was a boy, then we'd set points and plugs every 3k miles and you were lucky if your tires lasted 20k before replacing and only had 2 flats between new tires.
But gratuitous junk for junks sake... is just junky... most of it distracts from the job and art of driving.

You wouldn't need keys in that case. Just a cool red push button! No lost keys either...
I too keep my keys with me anytime I leave my 'runner or any vehicle. Don't have time to call someone to unlock it for me. Being in control means staying in control.

Packaging forces me to have the tech stuff I could care less about. I want a radio/stereo that plays music from the AM/FM/CD or XM and that is really all I will use. Too many times I have been run off the road by some fool texting while driving down a local back road and I really would like to shove a phone down someone's throat. If you want a 4R "Limited" then you get what it comes with and really don't have much choice these days.
I can see where a lot of this technology is helpful to many but I don't necessarily trust many who use it in the wrong ways. Easy for me to say since I am not married to a cell phone or any other devices. I prefer folks to drive their cars and watch the road and I believe every car on our roads should be fully insured with much better than the basic liability limits. Just a day or two in the ICU will eat up $25,000 quick.

All I was saying was since they are halfway with tech, why not go all the way and stop making it goofy. The whole thing makes no sense and if somebody can explain "why", then maybe I'll understand what the hell they were thinking with the tech in it. First, you get a text from Johnny asking where you're at, so you can pick quick message that says, on my way, be there soon. Now you can read the 14 quick messages, flip through 3 screens and find or read the one you need but you can't read the actually text itself because you're moving. I say 14 even though there's actually 15 but you can't pick #1 unless you are using GPS. So what's gonna happen, you're gonna go to your cell and do it from there. #2, on you way to Johnny's and you want to let him know you're on your way but you can't send him a text unless you have a text from him. You can't go into contacts and pick Johnny, pick quick text but you can pick email. Makes no sense. #3, you want to use your GPS for a location you found before, now as you scroll through the location and reading them while driving and has to go to second page, no, no, can't do that while driving but the quick text you can look through the 3 pages of them while driving. That was my whole point that I just don't understand why you can read one thing but not the other. How you can press the talk button and "say" call Johnny or call 5555555555, but you can't say text Johnny on my way be there in 20 minutes. It's nice you don't have to pay for the service like you do with Chrysler or Chevy

Put an automessage on your phone that tells people you're driving when they try to text you, and stop worrying about what worthless tech Jeep has that Toyota doesn't.
Or go buy a Cherokee, that way at least you won't ruin a Toyota when you drive off the shoulder worrying about what that last text message says.

I've owned several Jeeps and only in the past couple of years has the technology been able to do what the OP is wanting. My '12 Rubicon with UConnect, Nav, Connectivity Pkg, etc. could not do those things and did not play well with the iPhone at all other than making a handsfree call. Because I travel a lot, I am constantly in rental cars of different makes. The smartphone integration is done better by some than others but all are a bit different and seem archaic in some ways vs. the others. I haven't found a perfect system.
However, on my '10 TE, my iPhone 6 hooks up seamlessly. I keep it in the slot in front of the cupholder so I can reach it easily without looking for it. When I get a text, I hold down the home button and say "Read last text". It reads the text over the speakers. If I need to answer, I hold the home button and say "Send text to..." and then I tell it what to send and it does. My Rubicon could not do that. I wish I could download my phone book to the 4Runner though. The individual entry thing is a pain. Fortunately there are not that many people I want to talk to when driving and I try to avoid phone calls in general.

Not to attack, or be redundant, but the 95 4runner i fell in love with didn't even have a radio. Once you have yours take you some place so far out you won't even get cell service anyway, i think you'll be happy with it.

Well if the phone integration is huge problem for you then get ready for many problems in the future. With millions of phones and hundreds of companies its almost impossible. with the huge obstacle of iOS vs android there is always one that is more favored.
if the entertainment is what gets you liking a car then buy the jeep. You will be well entertained on the side of the road or to cover up weird noises.
Get a different phone its a couple hundred vs $40k for a new vehicle.

I agree, my buddy and I are Toyota salesman, the other day he bought a Honda instead of Toyota, we were giving him a hard time of course, but after looking at the technology inside the Honda, (and fit and finish) it is a no brainer.
I love my T4R, but two nights ago when we were playing with the Honda we asked the same question, why doesn't Toyota do this.

Some of those limits are the phone. iPhones are incompatible with most manufacturers technology they are closed-source. Android just throws it around anywhere. As for the lack of use while driving, you're welcome. That's a safety feature. You can use Siri on an iPhone, androids you can use the rapid response. It'll read the messages out loud if the vehicle is in motion but that's it.
As for the rest, I am the used car manager at a jeep dealership, I can't tell you how many radiators, head units, body harnesses, etc I've seen replaced over the last six months. I've seen 45-50k jeeps brought back as lemons or buy backs because of continued, repetitive issues with NO explanation. Buy a 4Runner, use the repair money AND the money you save with have one of the least depreciating vehicles being sold, and buy an aftermarket head unit.
The good news is, your 4Runner is going to worth a lot of money for a long time so if all else fails, come see me and I'll put you in a fancy jeep with a service contract

Just wondering, what year is yours? 2015? Also I've heard Entune is able to get updates. Has yours been updated at all? Not sure that would fix any of your issues, but I've wondered if they ever release additional features with those updates. (I'm about to buy a 4Runner in the next week, so I don't have Entune yet to know)
