Idle Question and need Opinions

OK guys, once again, i did a search for this and I did not find the info I needed so if this has been answered, I apologize and please point me in the right direction.

So I have been having idle issues and after replacing the MAF and the dashpot the truck fires first time every time and idles like a champ. However, going down the road is a different story. I can get in and drive and the second I push in the clutch to stop for a light, The RPMs stay there. So if I push in at 2k the idle will stay there. Now if I just bump the gas pedal then the idle will drop down to where it needs to be. I have hosed the components down with white lithium grease and such and it has yielded no better results.

My initial thoughts are that the butterflies are worn out on the throttle body and it is time for a new one but I would like the opinion of everyone here before I chuck some money at that part too.

I just had a similar issue. Could it be that your throttle return spring is worn out.

The TPS is a potentiometer. Throttle Position Sensor It works just like the fuel level float.

I found an article just searching google for a return spring and it talks about the 3.4 TB and how the butterfly wears a groove out of the TB and that with a strategically placed washer on the butterfly shaft, it will minimize the gap, take out the extra slop and allow the return spring to work properly. I know it is for the 3.4 but I am going to pull the TB off tonight and probably rebuild it. Will give me a chance to inspect everything going on there.

I will probably replace the TPS to be on the safe side as well.

Don't forget to check your TPS adjustment if you do remove it from the throttle body! That's the kind of lesson you only need to learn once...

I have not removed it yet but will check the Haynes manual for any information on it.

Aye, it's a super sensitive part, so look up how to set your throttle blade stop screw (not the same as the dashpot stop screw) as well as how to adjust the positioning of the TPS. It's not a fixed-position part that you can just toss on and be all set without proper adjustment.
