One thing that bothered me when I bought my Limited was, if you buy their top of the line model, you should have the option to order it with any option that is available for 4Runners.
I like the look of the hood scoop, but was told by several dealers I could not order a Limited with it. I would have to buy the truck, and then order another hood. Or buy a Sport that didn't have all the other options I wanted.
That kinda stuff really irritated me. It's not like I was trying to buy a SR5 and wanted to pick and choose all the nice options a Limited had to save money. I wanted a Limited, and was willing to pay the extra that the hood scoop, hood costs. But they wanted me to buy a whole other hood, and then pay them to paint it and install it. Plus then I would also be stuck with the first hood still.
Oh ya, HID's would be nice too.

also, the 4runner's ground clearance is higher than most suv's nowadays, so i'm not complaining.

nope. i'm just saying, car makers have to think of practicality, and i don't think it would be very practical to increase the ride hieght. it certainly wouldn't fit in my garage, or do much justice for the rollover ratings. when i looked for an suv, i noticed that the 4runner was amongst the ones with the highest ride hieght, and i liked that for the winters here. don't get me wrong, i think it's cool how you guys lift and offroad your trucks. that's what aftermarket parts are for. i just can't find the time and money for that type of enjoyment at this point in my life.

If I could change one thing....
I would relocate the gas tank lid release lever and the hood release lever. Too many times I've gone for the gas and the hood pops. I'm happy with the rest. I envy v6's and partial 4WD now and then. That's why I bought a motorcycle for the commute in SoCal. The loss of HP but the gain in TQ helps when I pull the motorcycle trailer with the 4.7L V8. I didn't have any problems with aftermarket audio equipment in place of the 6 disk CD changer. You can program the windows (including rear) to open with an auto-start (I have)Yeah so my buddy's 08 V6 T4R SE has more stock HP. I have the TQ on my 05 V8 SE and that's what kicks his ass off the line

i would change the seats so they were more comfortable somehow, either softer and/or electronic setting.
telescoping steering wheel would be nice too
cruise control lever on the steering column instead of the steering wheel so it wasn't always moving
and a bottle opener on the hitch cap

TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why did they not do that in the first damn place?
Also, I would make it so the seat can go back a bit further and round off the edges of the center console (my leg presses into it and it bothers me after a while). Or you could just take out the lower part altogether like a lot of domestic pickups. Infinite knee room.
Also, I would help my passengers out and actually put a comfortable passenger seat in there. Other than that, it's an almost perfect car.

even having a combo bench seat/console section up front would be awesome, but the whole interior would be completely different.
I can never pick just one thing!
1. Add a LED/light on EVERY button/switch for the window switches and door locks - my biggest annoyance! Anyone ever do this mod? Please PM me a link if so! I'd love a DIY guide in coming up with a way to light these switches up!
2. Lose the rotten egg smell when stepping on the gas! Gross. It's the worst if you've got a girl with ya' and you're a 'lil heavy on acceleration.
3. Auto up/down on ALL windows (my '08 is auto only on drivers side, moonroof, and rear tail window)
4. Reclining rear seats
..I hear they recline on 4runners w/3rd row. I don't have a 3rd row. Why can't they still recline!?

1. For those that don't have the money to get the t4r with NAvi or simply not crazy for a indash navi and touchscreen thing...at least put a Radio without the cassette slot only cd changer and capability to connect and IPOD
2. The yellow light for the Dashboard etc.. Blue!!!.. even red ,green or white would look way better.
3. The AC controler ...they can do something better and more modern looking.

Relocate power window switches higher. Get rid of those ugly running boards. Roof racks are ugly, especially the silver. Round tubular ones with straight cross bars would be nice. Better quality paint job, I can look at my paint and it chips. Don't tuck the wheels so far in the wheel well, bring them out at least an inch. Oh yeah, I think they should make it an availble option to have a rear locker.

I would add two position driver seat memory for my '05 Limited... My wife would like more power outlets.

Well for me, on the 5th Gen.
If they don't have an V8 option, that will be my biggest request. There is no way I'll sell my V8 for a V6.
Other things I hope they fix is the HVAC system, it's totally worthless in my 04. In the winter time, it's either blowing out heat so hot (even with it set to 65) or freezing cold (at lo) that I'm always messing with it, hoping to get it to stabilize at one temp. Then it always fogging up in the winter time, any time it rains it starts fogging up. You turn the defroster on, it goes away but within seconds of turning it back to another vent, truck fogs up. Doesn't matter where the recirc is set either.
If my old beater car can have a slider control where I set, and never touch it the rest of the trip. My brand new truck with all the fancy electronics should have the same advantage.
Other then that, I just hope the next gen still has some toughness and doesn't become another grocery store SUV.

Glad I'm not the only one. When I first got the truck a few years back, I installed the stock toyota alarm system rs3200 by myself. I thought I had royally effed something up, because that happened. I guess the timing was just right with th changing of the seasons.
