If you could paint your 4runner ANY color..

If you go wheeling I would paint it color that is easy touch up out of a can. ( some shade that rustoleum carries )

Otherwise I would paint it the stock color or color very similar to the stock color. Even if you removed the engine, seats, carpet there will still be some of the other color left. I have EG6 the previous owner changed from red to black. Did all the jams under the hood. You can still see red through the dash vents. When the car gets scratched or the paint flakes off it is bright red under the black.

I've completely gutted my 4Runner before, and I'll do it again to drive it to my local body shop when it's orange time!

figured this would be a good topic, im disgusted with the paint condition of my black 2000 sr5, so many fine scratches and chips, ive been talking to a buddy of mine who paints hotrods and contemplating on a respray, im thinking about this lexus green, but what would you guys paint your trucks?:noidea:

That Lexus green is the worst color Lexus makes. Absolutely horrible.

I vote for Sun fire Red Pearl which a rare 4Runner color.

That color would be pretty cool on a 3rd gen. I would do something like that or another form of metalic grey, or replicate my oem black. Theres nothing quite like brand new glossy black paint

Why not go with Lexus Pearl white or the Toyota Prius Blizzard White Pearl...

If you are going blue then the Electric Blue found on 2012 Lexus 350IS - definitely the winner.

I agree, black is my next choice.

I just painted my 2UZ nimbus, it looks a little blue in the pics, but its gray in real life.

Just my opinion (and you asked for it). Why would I buy a truck that I was attracted to because of how it looked and then go and drop all kinds of money to repaint it? Just because it has a few chips or scratches? Do you get rid of your girl just because you had an argument or she forgot to wear make up one day??? Same difference.

That just sounds like a shitty paint job to be honest.

Op, i would just probably just repaint mine the same color. I like the desert dune metallic, but if i had a nice chunk of money sitting around it would definetly get totally redone like the emerald green color.

I think the car should be painted the original color or a color very close to the original color.

If changes the color to something different and wheels the truck a lot it would be a lot easier to match say some shade of black that rustoleum carries vs the latest greatest world rally blue by subaru.

To me if you wheel your truck it is a hobby truck like a race car. Tons of race car owners paint their car with rustoleum.
