Welcome to the South in the 1850s, or is it Germany in the 1930s? Of course, it ain't North America in the 1500s, cause then it would be them same "illegals" asking "what's up with all these honkys coming over here in they funky boats stealing all the good jobs?"
Licenses allow the state to ensure that people, who are going to drive anyway, meet a certain understanding of laws and can drive. It also allows them to get insurance, something we all want (and many will get insurance). So, deny them licenses, but you leave folks like me at risk (safety and financial) in doing so.

As far as everything else, why on earth would it be OK with you for illegals to "be here," yet have no way to make a living? Doesn't make sense.
Here's my plan:
Anyone can come here and work. But they have to pay taxes. And there's no automatic citizenship for simply being born on US soil, like there is now.
They get no Social Security benefits (yet they still have to pay into it, which should "save" SS). No voting rights. No welfare. No property ownership. You work to make your own way, and if you can't, you have to leave.
After 20 years, they can apply for citizenship. And it involves a real English proficiency and American history exam (not the goofy one they have now). And English becomes the "official" language. No more catering to foreigners by state or federal governments by printing materials in multiple languages, like at the DMV.
Or...they can apply after 10 years if they serve those 10 years in the military under honorable conditions. Likewise if it's deemed that they somehow made a significant contribution to our country (scientists, doctors, etc.).
Anyone convicted of a felony is gone. We're not going to fill our prisons with people who don't contribute.
In a nutshell, work hard, assimilate, and become an American, just like immigrants did in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Don't isolate yourselves
in your own little communities, ignore the English language, etc., and then lobby for benefits for your particular "group."
Not a perfect plan, but adopting much of it would solve some issues, I think.

if I broke a federal law, if I committed a federal crime, I would be arrested and jailed, I wouldn't get amnesty.

Working and paying into our system, but without getting any type of benefits AND having to master our language to become a citizen is not "amnesty."
If you do some research on past amnesties, each was simply a blanket granting of status without asking for anything in return. This is not the same. I'm asking for a commitment to this country - not just allowing anyone to do whatever they want. It's not "amnesty" when you're asking them to give as much as I'm advocating and you require folks to actually work for it.
As far as federal laws being broken and people not being "arrested" for it, it happens every day - like every person who stretches the truth on their tax returns, every person who copies a DVD or (in years past) a VHS movie, every person who commits a violation for which a criminal citation can be issued (i.e. a ticket). Bottom line is not every violation of federal law is an arrestable offense. In fact, most are not.
And just an FYI - illegals who are caught are never prosecuted in federal court unless they commit a crime other than entering the U.S. illegally. They're not even "arrested." They're detained, pending determination of status, then VR'd - or Voluntarily Returned - to their country or origin.
Now, if you really want our criminal court system bogged down with a federal agent putting together a case, then an Assistant U.S. Attorney bringing charges against every illegal who was caught working as a housekeeper or a landscaper, then there are going to be a lot of other, more serious crimes that have to wait. That's why we only prosecute the ones who commit other crimes in addition to being illegal - like being illegal and engaging in gang activity, drug or human trafficking, etc.
As for the "run-of-the-mill" illegal immigrant, I don't think you'll ever see - in our lifetimes - enough of a consensus among the American people that we'll have law enforcement arresting, charging, and jailing every single person who did not legally enter this country. Just the logistics, alone, would involve resources we don't have.
It's fine and dandy to say that "every illegal is committing a federal crime and should be arrested," but the reality is it isn't practical to do so. If we had 150 illegals, total? Maybe. 10 Million? No way.

Im sure you would feel different, if a known illegal raped your 13 year old daughter, or killed your family in a drunk driving accident, then skated back across the border for a few months.
Illegals ARE a huge problem, they DID commit a federal crime and people want to give them amnesty.. :crazy:
No matter how you try and explain it, no matter how much you sugar coat it, it IS, amnesty, they committed a federal crime, and are not being thrown in prison ? the gov. knows who they are, the gov. knows where they are, yet they are not arrested and jailed? THAT IS AMNESTY,,,,

What you don't seem to get is that prisons cost money, a lot of money and deporting them is much cheaper. Your "why don't we throw The families in jail" attitude is not very practical.
Could the government do more to enforce existing laws .... Yes but putting them in prison isn't the answer.
I also don't really get your signature, not exactly the pinnacle of intelligence. "God forgives, rocks don't" ...

on that subject, if someone sneaks across the border and has a kid, that kid is, an American citizen, at birth, they should deport the mother, or throw her in prison, she is a FEDERAL CRIMINAL, and don't give me that crap about "separating family" there are lots of people in prison now, that have kids, they are separated from their kids.. why give special treatment to ILLEGALS???
This country is going down hill fast, how long will American be able to sustain all these ILLEGALS ??? we don't have the resources, already, cities like New York are shipping their trash to the Midwest cause they don't have the room for it now, and you want to allow more, illegals into this country :noidea:

I knew a guy that this happened to. He was a good friend of my best friend, who was also on the SLCPD at the time.

Despite the story not giving a full description of what happened, at least they did sort of mention what happened. Even if it is overly sugarcoated to appease those that don't like to hear reality.
Basically, the illegal alien was observed by numerous witnesses driving way too fast, and swerving through traffic. He lost control because of his extreme vehicle control inputs. As he lost control, he hit the rather tall curbing, which is what caused the tires to blow. (The tires blowing were because of his reckless driving, not what caused the reckless driving.) His car proceeded straight up onto the sidewalk, where he hit and killed Micheal J. Dunman.
Calls for sympathy from naive illegal alien sympathizers, pressured the State to release the illegal alien, prior to trial.
Of course the illegal alien immediately fled the country. Nearly thirteen years later, he has yet to be held responsible for killing a Father, Husband, Friend, and one of the good cops that tried to always help the underdog.
Well..I suppose doodling on the back of a dollar bill is a federal crime too, but I don't think you'd make the same clamor if you saw that. I think you are invoking the law after you made your policy decision (based on your dislike of a certain group of people). Also, your arguments are somewhat tautological; you are making your own definition of amnesty based on those things you perceive to be real in case at hand and then you cite those things and say "look, it's amnesty."
Would it have been right to send the Irish and Italians back? Should we return this nation to the remaining tribes recognizing our antecedents were illegal aliens.
I think MOST Americans and most immigrants know we need to get illegal immigration under control. However, many of us want a policy that will lead people who have been here for 10+ years a path to citizenship. You can pretend your no amnesty approach is superior, but it is in fact leading to a LARGER illegal alien population. If we had addressed immigration under the Bush administration or earlier, would could have gotten a handle on things, but hard line insistence on an inhumane policy is just ensuring nothing gets done. We will never send tens of millions of people back to whence they came, even if we could. Smarten up and work on a rational and feasible plan and quit whining about brown people you don't like coming here to participate in the American dream.

Yes, it was moronic. I would even say criminal.
But it buys/bought votes from the sympathizers..
Because people continue to stream because we don't have immigration reform. Whatever we end up with will allow people that can show that they have been here from some amount of time to remain. So, the clock keeps ticking and that population of people that will be eligible to remain grows ever larger while people insist on "no amnesty." We need some of that labor that is here now; want to wreck the economy? Throw them all out.
