I'm amazed at the oil!

I have run Mobil1 synthetic since the first oil change. I have always been dissapointed by my mileage. It has always been primarily high 16's to high 17's around town. As I was shopping in WalMart (where I always buy oil) I decided maybe it was time to try something else. I considered all the 'dino' oils and then noticed a bottle of Wal Mart's house brand of synthetic at about the same price as the premium dino oils. I even posted here about it before I bought it to ask opinion. I tried it.

I have driven 6 tanks since the change and have not gone below 18.20 MPG. I know it is not a huge gain; but it is a gain. I think it bigger emotionally seeing 18.xx instead of 16.xx or 17.xx. Either way it is pretty cool to me!

I'd like to see some of you try this and report your results as well.

It's great oil I have used it in some of my past cars and trucks and it ran just fine. I may start running it again but for now I get a great deal on Shell full synthetic.

but there's NWIH that an oil change from M1 to something else is gaining you mpg.

Warmer climate? Seems like these truck's fuel economy decreases in colder tempuratures. Here in the north east, it's been warmer, my MPG went from 15mgp to 17.5 mpg (V8)

I Agree with JosephD05, I noticed that weather affects the MPG of your car. When I was in South East I'm getting around 15-17 MPG. But now in Chicago 14-16 MPG.

Hey I thought Mobil1 was the best. That is why I have used it for so long in my car and my boat. The proof is in the pudding as they say. That is why I would like to see some of you try it and report your results. I certainly don't work for Wal Mart or have anything to gain.

Did you use the same viscosity? Did you adjust your tire's air pressure? Were there any other changes?

Same driving on both brands? Even a hundred highway miles during a tank for me will show an increase in overall mileage.

It's not about which oil is "best". It's that OIL doesn't affect mpg in anything but a tiny little way. Sure as heck nothing approaching 2 mpg. From the worst oil to the best wouldn't approach that. More like .2 mpg. MAYBE

The viscosity or overfilling could (in fact) make the difference in mpg and several HP. Why do you think many race vehicles use 0w oil?

Same viscocity and (as far as I can tell) no difference in driving practices. I drive hard. I waited to post until I drove through enough tanks to be somewhat sure. No change in pressure or anything else that I know of...just reporting what i see.

Several hp AIN'T 2 mpg. Nor is overfilling. What the race reference is about I have no idea.

If your mileage has changed it is not related to engine oil. There are way too many factors involved. If you were to plot your fuel mileage for each load verses time, it will have a slight cyclical variation. I imagine it should look like a distorted sine-wave; even if you use the same gas station and only drive the same route for the duration of the experiment.
