Just finished replacing the rear main seal on my 2016 4WD Limited. Next time one goes out, I'm blowing up my runner instead of trying to fix it.

With that said, I can't for the life of me figure out where this plate goes. Have the FSM for the RMS, but it isn't listed and I'm assuming I removed it to get to something more easily, but my dumbass can't figure out where the hell it goes.

Please rip me apart for not taking a picture or whatever else you might find wrong with the post, but only if you can tell me where the heck this goes. Already wasted an hour literally trying to find 2 holes that line up with the plate.

That looks like a heat shield.

Just a guess ... transmission support bracket?

It's not the mounting or heat insulator for the transmission and it isn't the transfer case lower protector. It isn't part of the exhaust assembly either.

That looks a lot like the plate I had to remove to get to the grease fitting on one of the u-joints last week. Possibly the one on the t-case end of the front drive shaft.

This picture is of a 4th gen underside, but it's in the same location on 5th gens as not much really changed in that regard. It's the heat shield for the cross over pipe under the transfer case that insulates the front driveshaft area. It mounts to the transmission cross brace.

I'll have to check in the morning, but Google image search makes me think it's a heat shield that mounts to the No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly that supports the transmission...

Its perfectly normal to have parts left over when doing major work. Just throw them in the armrest for safekeeping...if you don't need them in a year, throw them away. If you don't believe me, your probably the guy who reads the instructions "before" you get started.

LOL, I removed bunch of things on my 4th gen such as transfer case damper (5th get ditched this) and spare tire wind tool guide (surprisingly large and bulky chunk of mild steel), X-REAS...

Its perfectly normal to have parts left over when doing major work. Just throw them in the armrest for safekeeping...if you don't need them in a year, throw them away. If you don't believe me, your probably the guy who reads the instructions "before" you get started.

Also completely normal to have random nuts lost in the engine bay/frame! The manifold assembly has 2 bolts that are hard to reach and both nuts didn't survive. I know they're safe somewhere in the vehicle, living their best lives [emoji1787]

I always thought the oil pan was the place to store left over nuts and bolts, not the armrest.

i just crawled under my 2014. It is what Blackwork picture shows between the exhaust and front driveshaft.
