I'm back. The diff swap continues.

Hey guys sorry I went MIA. (Not that anyone noticed) but my girlfriend and I had a child back in September. So everything got put on the backburner. I was just enjoying her, watching her grow and learn. It's amazing. Yes my first child.

Anyhow my 4runner got put on hold for a bit, but I'm now getting back into finishing the front differential swap. The rear went in easy with some new shocks and bumpstops. (The reason for the swap was cause of the hairline crack on the diff housing) I found a set of 4.88 diffs and wanted to do the complete swap. But now getting to the second part of the swap I noticed that the front diff has the yota A.D.D. actuator. Mine does not. I have a 93 t4r 4x4 v6 5spd manual hubs. . I read the pros and cons to the a.d.d.

Now my questions...
can I use it? What would I need?

If not.... Can I just swap axle shafts? What do I need for the swap?

Congrats on the kid, they're amazing.

You can use the new diff. If you're anal you can swap your non-ADD axle tube and halfshaft onto the new diff. Most people just throw it in like it sits and manually engage the ADD shifter on the axle tube, like so: Toyota Tech: Defeating the ADD System - ORN

Kid v is right most just throw it in. But the axel and long tube switch is so easy and the only thing you need is a $4 seal. And it eliminates the chance of failure when you really need it. I did this swap on my rig in like 10 min. And then just swapped it right back in.

Just get the correct socket to remove the bolts or the 10 minute job will stall quickly.

I picked up the seals. I checked out the break down on both a.d.d. and non a.d.d. diff. The only difference is the needle bearings on the add. But it should work with the non add axles.
Any tips or things to look out for would be appreciated.
I'm gonna do the swap this week. I'm gonna coat it prior.

What did you guys use to press the seals in? A big socket? I have a bearing driver but I'm worried I'll damage the inner part of the seal.

I used a piece a pvc pipe Union I had sitting around.

I used 2 inch pvc pipe. Worked great. For the pinion I used the slide gear from the A.d.d.

It's all backed together. I'm gonna do the other axle seal.. Since its out. Then paint and install it.

I used the old sliding collar. It's the perfect diameter.

Screw the socket. I sawzall'd em off. Quick and clean.
