Im frustrated

I need some help with this my 94 fourrunner has had a problem climbing hills (no power) for about two years i have replaced all vac lines egr valve and mass air sensor and full tune up along with all filters still no fix. I have heard of the vsv(?) would this play a roll in my problem or does anyone have a fix for this?

What gears are you running? What size tires? The 3.0 is not a powerhouse. I would want 4.56 gears or lower, especially if running larger than stock tires.

Did they replace the O2 sensor when they replaced the exhaust? New OEM plug wires?

Its all stock 02 sensors and wires also there. It will chug and pull like it wants to open up and climb and then start loosing power sometimes if i get my shift just rite it will keep the rpm's up and climb good not as good as it did when i got it a couple of years ago but its not embarrassing to be in.

I don't think regearing is going to help a obvious machanical problem its all stock and this was not a problem two years ago. I went from climbing a hill at seventy to climbing at fourty five

Clean the throttle body? Check the TPS? Check the fuel injectors? Check the fuel lines and/or pump?

Regearing will help if all mechanicals are within spec.

sounds like a tired engine to me, check the compression.

I agree !
Why would you spend $800-1000 to regear as a bandaid for another problem??

A clogged cat conv would be the first thing I'd look at.
Maybe the "entire" exhaust wasn't replaced.

I would be inclined to think of them not changing the parts that i said but unfortunately I'm the mechanic in this one that's probly why I'm getting frustrated. I've always suspected it to be vacume related does anyone know what the vsv thing is and if that could be causing a restriction or something info on the vsv is hard to find or I'm not looking in the rite places.

Again, if you really want us to help you, more info (some pics) are needed so we know what part you are talking about. We don't know if you are looking in the right places if we don't know where you are looking.

You don't say what engine you have but the 3.0 is mentioned above so I am assuming this is correct. I can't tell you whether a bad VSV would cause this but here is the picture from the FSM on it's location.
