I assume the 4runner has 410s. For the time being I think ill keep my axles and run the set of 33s I've got. Once if fix and confirm a few of the other issues I can swap the gears.

I've got the 22re about ready to come out. The entire electrical system is shot in the 4runner. It will all be coming out. Looks like someone has been fighting electrical issues for a while.

Engine pulled and piled and my electrical panel came in. Started to gut the interior. I'd like everything pressure washed and ready for the install before I go out of town friday. Slow going right now but the goal is to have it driving with the stock axles and 33s by September 1st. Depending on worn driveline parts I'd like to have it good and drivable before I regear and install the 37s.

I think. I haven't gotten that far yet. Once it's running and driving I'll tackle the rust.


On a side note ... engine is in, added the 3rd peddle, and started the wiring.

Not huge in the realm of the junk I usually mess with. Has anyone used flexseal on their floor? I am going to try it and see how it does. There is some cracking In the factory floor material. I'd like to seal it up before it rust. I've got enoght of that to mess with.

Rust is way worse than I originally thought. No problem. It's so far gone I can take the easy way out in fixing it. The maroon piece to see is a composite wrapped in aluminum. Ungodly strong and will add some structure. The tape will hole thr forst layer of fiberglass and can pe pulled off from the underside. This will dry tonight and tomorrow. I will add some aluminum bars for support before the next coat of fiberglass. Tis a shame the whole thing is rotted out. Itll still be a good overlanding rig.

Woa, what a amout of rust in your back. Somebody left it in rain without top. Hopefully you can save it, seems like your car did see more dirt then road.

Wheel to fender is 1/2" taller in the front. I'm tired but I did lose 12 pounds of metal and rust with all the impacting. The top has never been off this. I don't feel that it's worth the money to save it or at least to even put it in daily driver status. The whole thing is rusted. Like bad. Lots of rear frame work to do next spring.

Get it road worthy. Lights, wipers, etc and fix the holes.



I did get the lift done. Between the lift and trans swap the rear drive shaft is a hair short. That will be addressed before I do any offroading other than the farm.

Thanks for sharing this! I also want to delete the stupid roll-up window on my first-gen and replace it with flip-up style.
May we know if that window and glass are plug-and play into the first-gen?
Was it made for the first-gen, or did you just happen to found one that fits? If made for a different camper, which one and what brand?
Is that cut-out on the corner of the fiberglas needed or just happened to be there?

The glass can be removed. You'll want to keep the mechanism in the tailgate and it ties the gate handle to the latches. The caper top is from the 80s. It fit a Toyota truck. I had to cut the fiberglass out the the back part of the window would recess and it would set flat from the outside. I will fiberglass the upper hinge to the cap for structure and water tightness.
