I'm running Toyota Genuine Motor Oil?????

Hi,

I went to my Denso dealer this afternoon. I changed my Oil and choose to use the Toyota Genuine Motor Oil 5W30.

I'm not lazy to change the oil frequently as Toyota oil is not synthetic.
But anybody here tested it? any problem?

I changed from synthetic to Toyota oil because i was annoyed by the leak. Nos as I changed the gasket and all the stuff I want to keep it clean and no leak...

Any comments or advices?

I'm sure the Toyota oil is fine. Why wouldn't it be?


I'm coming up on 17 years of using Synthetic oils in every component on my 4Runner. I've never had any oil leaks.

If you had a leak with synthetic then you got a bad seal probably caused by NOT using synthetic in the first place.

synthetics may end up pointing out leaks that already existed, they are not the actual cause of them -- it's important to understand that distinction.

if you went synthetic, and are now leaking... and want to switch back -- you have a stupid plan of action, IMO.

fix the leak, keep using the synthetic (If you want). Or... fix the leak, and go back to dino, it doesn't really matter, but who wants a leak on their rig? I sure don't.

The non-syn Toyota motor oil appears to me to be a Mobil product; the bottles were the same as Mobil when only Mobil had those wider-mouth plastic bottles, and you could see it being delivered to the dealer on a stake-bed truck that said "MOBIL" on the side.
Recently, a former Toyota dealer employee who now runs a local independent repair shop told me that the bulk synthetic oil used at Toyota dealers is the Japanese ENEOS brand..supposedly a product of Nippon Oil Corporation.
Coincidentally, I bought a six-pack of Eneos Synthetic 5W-40 for my old truck from Amazon about two years ago. The bottles said "Made in USA" on them.
Add to that the known fact that, like gasoline, motor oil isn't necessarily brewed up by the company who's name is on the bottle, and we're back to the age old question:
"What's really in this bottle anyway?"

I'm a new learner in here and this forum! Really love 4runner. I open for your advices. My leak stop since I changed the Valve cover gasket.
I was going to use Kendall 5W30 by Phillip 66 but once arrived at Denso Dealer (Toyota subs dealer here) I saw a Toyota motor oil, so I chooses to test it.

It gonna last only 3000 miles as it's a Blend-synthetic...

Have no idea what "leak" you were referring to, assumed it was a gasket or seal of some sort since that is usually what leaks.
Seal is just a generic term.

Also a "Blend Synthetic" (as I am sure you know since you will change it in 3000 miles) is like taking a fine wine you have been aging in your cellar for 10 years and then 'blending" it with Boones Farm.
It serves no purpose but to mess up the fine wine.

I would suggest run that toyota oil for about 3000 miles (as you said to), then change to a real synthetic like either Amsoil or Redline.
Use the very best oil filter you can get your hands on, the Amsoil filter is good, I am sure there are several others.

Depending on what type of driving you do you can take either of those oils to between 5000 up to 10,000 miles as long as you have a REALLY GOOD oil filter.
If you drive mostly stop and go city driving, towing, mountainous areas, or other hard driving conditions then I wouldn't go much past 5000.
Or if you only drive about 5000 miles in a year, change the oil in one year regardless if you only drive 100 miles on it.
My wifes Lexus we just sold I changed the oil before selling it and only had 351 miles on the full synthetic oil, but she only drove it 351 miles in one year.

If you drive mostly Highway and puts lots of miles in a short timeframe mostly at 60+mph and not much harsh driving then 10,000 miles is not unreasonable at all. But make sure the oil filter matches the oil.

Sounds good! Toyota dealer here propose Castrol and also Mobil 1 full synthetic. I use Denso oil filter. is K&N filter good? online review said it not bad. I drive a lot in the city! idling, low speed, and hot temperature country (average 30 degree). Highway long distance drive once every 1 month.

I'm on a Maintenance period now. Got 130 000 mile on it now.
Will have my transmission fluid changed soon, its brown. No burn but brown.
As I drive a lot in the city, I would like to have a fresh new ATF.

Next maintenance will be: Timing belt and then continue by build. Got a large offset rims with a MT tires and a plate bumper to fit my 5 inch lift now.
