In Boulder Sunday

Hey guys/gals.

I just started my job at Scuderia Rampante in Erie, CO and I'll be staying in Boulder for awhile until I get an apartment.... here's a few things on my mind.

1. Good places to eat- y'all wanna meet up and chill Sunday? Just make a meet somewhere and get some good grub? I would honestly like to meet those of you in that area in person so we can plan some spring/summer trips in the future and get an idea of who all is around!

2. Decent apartments. I've been looking at a few in Westminster and Longmont.... any other cities y'all would recommend?

3. Clothes. I'll be staying here in a hotel until Christmas and then bringing ALL of my clothes. How's the weather been? I know there are numbers online, but what does it REALLY feel like? Snow on the ground? Do I need to step it up and prep for full on winter right now? We used to vacation in Crested Butte... but that was in the summer. I could use all the help I can get.

4. Fuel. Where is the best place to get fuel? Do y'all run a winter mix type fuel? Do I need to take any measures to protect my engine/fuel injectors/MPG?




Thanks in advance guys/gals... I am looking forward to moving to the land of the 4Runner and huge hills called mountains. As a flatlander, Ill always be in awe.

Welcome to the Boulder area!

Places to eat: Lots and lots. Check out 29th street and Pearl Street malls. There is the Cantina Laredo which has good food on 29th street, Snarfs on Arapahoe and one on Pearl St, KTs BBQ out on Arapahoe and one on Broadway, Cheese Cake Factory of course, the Rio on Pearl, BJs Brewery on 28th St, Beau Jo's Pizza, Arbo's Pizza, a place called Food, etc. tons of places to look around depending on your taste. Pearl St, 28th St, 29th St, and Arapahoe are kinda the main drags you can cruise.

Apartments, no idea. They're expensive as **** in Boulder if you don't know already, a guy at work was paying $2100 a month as I recall and it was a small place. He then bought a house in Gunbarrel which is near Boulder, but I don't think it's technically in Boulder City limits. I know [MENTION=91423]Asaspades93[/MENTION] lives out there too.

Can't say a lot about the weather since I'm in Utah for school right now. According to my parents its been insanely warm in Boulder and in the 50s in the mountains (meaning it's 70s or so in the flatlands). Few snow storms but nothing insane, and nothing too cold relatively speaking (like teens or single digits at night for a few days, this is in the mountains though).

I've never done anything for truck winterization. One thing you'll find is Boulder sucks at having gas stations in convenient places though.

I live like a mile or so from Scuderia Rampante.

Saturday is suppose to be a powder day so I'm going skiing. Sunday I'm not sure yet. I might go skiing again, I might go up to Breckenridge to see the Dew Tour Slopestyle and Superpipe finals, if I'm to lazy to do either of those I'll be around.

1 - Sit down stuff - LuLu's in Louisville, Rueben's Burger Bistro in downtown Boulder, Rio Grande in downtown Boulder, Verde in Boulder, Echo Brewing in Erie, Lazy Dog in Erie or on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Pump House in Longmont, Lodo's in Westminster, La Rev in Louisville, Oskar Blues in Lyons (coming in on 36 WATCH FOR SPEED TRAPS), Avery Brewing in Boulder, Beau Jo's in Boulder (although the best one is in Idaho Springs).

Fast food type stuff - Pica's in Boulder, Illegal Pete's in Boulder, Motomaki in Boulder, Big City Burrito (the Westminster one is great, the Boulder one is a dump), Wayne's BBQ in Louisville/Superior (the best fast food you ever eat, it sucks it's not a sit down place with a bar), Yellow Belly in Boulder.

2 - Get out of Boulder County and you'll save a ton of money.

3 - It's been in the 60's all week but snow is coming tomorrow and temps will be dropping. You shouldn't need to really bundle up unless you're spending time outside at night. I still haven't brought out my winter coat, just a jacket. The solar gain at this elevation is awesome. There is zero snow on the ground right now but a bunch in the mountains. I came from Chicago and I was extremely surprised how mild the winter is in general here.

4 - I personally always fill all my vehicle with Shell, your going to be working right next to the Shell station. With the King Soopers grocery rewards card we save $.10 a gallon on fill ups.

I was already excited about moving to CO, but you guys make it more and more exciting. Good to see people who actually care about someone else live there

People here and better that people back home in my experience. It's a unique area in that people aren't here because they were born here and they're never going to leave here. People are here because the healthy outdoor mountain lifestyle is how they want to live. It's makes a big difference in the attitudes of people when everyone around you is here because they want to be and not just here because they are stuck here and they are never getting out.

Again coming from the Chicago Metro area it was weird when a stranger would even look me in the eyes and say hi. I'd check my pockets and think to myself I don't know you, I still have my phone and wallet, wtf do you want. lol

I don't ever see myself moving out of this state. Hell before I didn't even consider having kids. Crime, violence, coruption, taxes, cost of living, Illinois was so f'd up I didn't want to bring a kid into that life. That even changed once we moved out here, 3 years later and we are now expecting a son in late March. You'll love it.

Do you ski, snowboard, hike, bike, etc?

Mostly depends on where you're from and what clothing you have already. Right off the top of my head, do yourself a favor a buy a nice puffy midlayer like this one: Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody (you can usually find them on Steep and Cheap for half price)


As far as truck winterization- make sure you replace your windshield wiper fluid with the -20 stuff that you can buy anywhere. Down in Boulder it doesn't usually get THAT cold, but all it takes is one good freeze and you risk busting your lines or pump. Its about the same price as the summer stuff so why not?

Shoot we used to play your neighbors in 8 man football. Whats the name of that high school up there? up the hill past central city. I remember the field had more dirt than grass and a spray painted sign that said "Welcome to the Rock."

EDIT: Gilpin County. man those were some fun games. Maybe a little painful, but our coach always said it built character haha.


Is the Black Forest Inn still around? We used to go there after the game. I sometimes have dreams about their food and wake up drooling :hungry:

My girlfriend's from Gilpin County actually, but she went to high school in Ned with me. Black Forest still exists, though hardly anyone ever goes there. Maybe it was better back in the day but I've only been there once a long time ago and remembering the whole experience sucking haha

That all makes sense. Here in OK, people are born here and want to leave ASAP. The people that moved here (besides my mistake) either teach or work downtown. It can get depressing lol.

Ah, well, I ski, bike, hike, primitive camp, fly fish, and dirtbike. I will probably replace SCUBA with some form of climbing or spelunking- really wanna get into spelunking. Whats cool about CO, like you said, I will be around people who do/love the exact same stuff and do it all the time so it won't be hard to find people to adventure with lol.


As far as clothes- since we would always vacation to Crested Butte in the summer and Estes Park in the winter, I'm set on clothes. Just gotta pack light until Christmas when I move into an apartment permanently lol. Bringing all my Pat stuff, haven't found anything more comfy aside from North Face.

OH OH! what's cool about Patagonia and North Face... the people in CO (i would assume) wear it and ACTUALLY USE THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR! Climbing, camping, biking, wheeling, skiing/boarding.... not walking from English 145 to the frat hall. excited for not being judged and asking what frat I belong to by the people here at REI or Backwoods lol.


All of this input is making me more and more excited to leave tomorrow EARLY! Should be there around 5-6pm, extremely pumped!!!

Regarding the OP's question on lodging - Boulder is cool and all, but it's super expensive. Check out places in Longmont/Louisville for cheaper options. Longmont represent.

Right on right on! Actually, I believe the shop I work for will be getting beer from Avery for our customer lounge (in the works) as we are getting batches from multiple breweries in the area... Small world lol. But yeah, just joined the FB group. Stepped up my time frame so Ill be pulling in tomorrow evening, hanging out all day Sunday before work Monday.


Rear bumpers... you know, after building a front, i'd love to possibly design/build a hybrid rear with a tire swing out...

For living- looking into Longmont, Erie, and Westminster. Lafayette looks good but Westminster and Broomfield look very welcoming.

Yes, I will keep that in mind... you'll be my "I've got a connection" guy haha. Yeah man, that sounds great, 4:30 it is! Would be nice to get snow, last time I drove in snow was last year in Kansas.. well it was ice.. but yeah, i love snow lol.

Oh I believe it! And the prices will only go up with the amount of growth taking place there.
