In Need: Recommendation of plastic-to-metal adhesive

RUST, the reason I always have a headache, sour stomach and an achy left arm

(side note) Im preparing my oem chrome bumpers for paint.

Today, as I was removing my Rear driver's side mud flap when I noticed that the fender flair is barely being held on by the fasteners. Im soo fed up over the amount of rust and the common knowledge that Ill always have the issue that Ive decided to just seal up the body panels and "Glue" the fender flair to the quarter panel.

My Question: Does anyone know of a Really strong adhesive that I could use to bond the plastic flairs to my quarter panel??? Thanks in advance

You should be able to find a 2 part epoxy at any hardware store. I know Loctite makes some good epoxy that'll work for you, but you may need to get that from McMaster-Carr. Anything that will bond to metal should work for plastic. Just make sure you rough up the metal for a better bond.

Right. Im sure any two part expoxy would do the trick. Just trying to find a exceptionally strong type that will hold up to flex, rain, salt etc.

Look for a marine epoxy. Most should also have a weight rating on the package to help. You might try looking for an automotive epoxy or sealant.

You might eventually need to take the flares off to check for rust or get a paint job. Epoxy will cause them to snap. Why not try 3M emblem tape? It comes in a couple of widths and you can take the flares back off by using fishing line to "saw" through it. There are videos on Youtube on "shaving emblems." I'm going to use it when I replace the plastic B pillar trims on my 1st gen. I've already used it to glue the rain visor things back on the 4th gen. I got a roll at Advance Auto for about $8, I think.

I believe a user here named LINY used Toyota FIPG to mount his flares and it's held up great for a long time.

If your fender is that rusted, then the frame around the lower rear control arms is most likely roached.

youd think.. .but honestly most of the rear chassis comp are in good shape
