Inconsistent Whistle Sound Coming from Windshield?

Over the past couple of weeks I have had a strange noise coming from what I think is the windshield, but have not been able to pinpoint the source of the sound.

The sound is similar to a high pitched whistle, and seems to occur at speeds above 50mp/h. The noise happens anytime and is completely random. Happens on smooth roads, while braking, while accelerating, while being in neutral (coasting), etc.

Any idea what this might be? We do have a crack in our windshield, but I haven't been able to track that as the source of the sound - I don't believe it is.

I know there was a lot of complaints about older T4R's (3rd gen) with a noise from the windshield but in the 4th gen's it seems to be the cross arms of the roof rack--so much so that Toyota actually put a little hash mark to show where the best place to have them locked to decrease wind noise.

If you have a roof rack try moving your cross members...
