Independent Highbeams

So while retrofitting the low beams with Bi-Xenon HID projectors, the thought occurred to me to connect the high beam controls to only the solenoid, since they're extremely brighter than the oringinal high beams. Then wire an independent switch to control the original highbeam bulb.

Has anyone thought of doing this? I'm torn between putting in a stronger Sylvania 9005 bulb or retrofitting an aftermarket light in the space of the high beam, say PIAA or Rigid.

Any input would be welcomed. Thanks.

for me, having quad high was even better, but now since i switch to a low beam only projector, i miss having quad high.
 
Has anyone figured out how to get the high beam "flash to pass" to only turn on the high beams? I know there was a lot of talk about it, but I don't remember anyone saying they accomplished it.

Or- Does anyone have an extra light control stalk they are willing to part with for me to use to solve the problem? Anyone that added fog lights or factory automatic lights?
 
If all you tdid was tap the high beam wires, the projector should only flap the shield when the highs are on. Depending on the projector you used, you can buy some 9005 splitters from theretrofitsource.com or make your own.
 
I already have 9005 splitters from theretrofitsource.com, which projectors would they not work with?

Are you suggesting tapping the High Beam wire in the steering wheel column near the connector, or at the Head Lamp with the splitter?

I only want the high beam lights (or solenoid in this case) to come on when the light stalk is "Flash to Pass" (or pushed for High Beams) without the low beam light coming on as well.

The reason is I plan to have quad Bi-Xenon projects that are independent of each other.

Tap it at the connector. If your lights are off at the stalk it'll only activate the solenoid in the projector and the high beam bulb itself. Your hid ballasts will not have power since they're off, therefore the lows will not illuminate. You will possibly hear the solenoid lower the shield though..

Trs sells a high beam splitter. Has one female 9005 and two males. One goes to the bulb the other goes to the solenoid lead wires.
 
Whoops see you already have those. Are you trying to illuminate only the high beam bulb? The two closest to the grille or are you trying to illuminate the hid high beam as well? Guess I'm confused. If you want your bi xenon to work you will need to use the splitter. As long as your headlights are off at the stalk when you flash to pass the high beam bulbs (9005) will be the only ones to illuminate. It will activate the high beam solenoid in the projector but won't ignite the hid bulbs unless turned on at the stalk.
 
Unfortunately that's not how it works. The "flash to pass" turn on both the low beam and high beam. And when you push the stalk towards the dashboard without the lows on, nothing illuminates.

In both those instants I want just the high beams to come on.
 
Why not just leave out the TRS adapter in the headlight wiring, so you plug the bixenon 9005 plug directly into the stock high beam plug, then cut the high beam plugs off the TRS adapters and wire the OEM high beam bulbs up up like an aux light, with relay, fuse, & switch?


Why is using the stalk so important? That seems like a lot of extra work.
 
Hmm..I'll have to check mine when I get home from work. I thought it only illuminated the highs when you flash to pass. I don't use it enough to know 100% without testing it though. If it turns both on then it would require some creative wiring to achieve the results you want. I'll have to think about this a little harder now.

I was leaning toward the two projectors being independent. With your option, the high beam projector wouldn't be able to turn on unless the low beam projector was on. But I think I may have to result to that option - easier and quicker to wire up. I already have the FJ switch ready to wire up to the light.

I'm starting to agree with that. Using the stalk keeps the OEM "feel" of turning on the high beams. My personal preference is making this retrofit harder than necessary.

I'm a little confused, are you running two projectors in each lamp?

My understanding is that in a bi-xenon system the high beam merely flips up the shield that is creating the low beam (by hindering it from throwing light up high).

In my option, the high beam reflector/bulb (not the projector) would be activated via switch rather than with the bixenon high beam (which would still be activated by using the normal bright switch on the stalk)

lol yep... I'm finishing up two '06s right now and I'll be done for a little bit and maybe I'll try to work on the '03 ;):

If I'm not mistaken what you're trying to do, all out have to do is pull the headlight stalk toward you.

Nope -

Yes, I am working on a set of quad Bi-Xenons.
 
If its quad bixenon, the flash function wouldn't be worth anything due to the warmup time of the hid capsule.

Right. That's why I was questioning if any one figured out how to get the high beam "flash to pass" to only turn on the high beams - in this case, the solenoids.
