Inner CV boots w/o clamps?

Noticed some staining in the wheel well, and some fresh grease splattered, and when looking at CV axle I noticed that neither inner boot has a clamp on it despite obvious channels on both. Is this typical? Given leaking, I'm guessing not. Can I just reclamp, or do I need to replace and regrease?

Thats not normal, they're supposed to have clamps on there. Odd, because those look to be OEM axles to me based on the boots and clamps, so you'd think everything would be normal. Maybe they were rebooted by a previous owner? The OEM inner boot clamps would look like this:

I don't think you would need to reboot them since it doesn't look like much came out, but if you did, I have a writeup on the reboot process I used: CV Reboot Tutorial with Boot Stretch (80+ Pictures)

I would pick up some worm drive CV clamps and just throw them on there. I used these when I did my reboot: Set of 8-Toyota 4Runner CV Axle Repair Clamps Kit, Leaking Boots after Lift Kit | eBay.

I'd also recommend stretching the inner boot just past the channel in the axle, so the inner boot ribs don't rub on each other and cause premature tearing. I explained it a bit more in the writeup, but these pictures are kinda what I'm getting at:

Thanks for response - purchased the worm drives.

I’m original owner, and have never had to replace boots or axles - you can see there’s not much wear and tear, and less than 100k mi. I had a shop south of me install my lift kit, but they said they don’t touch CVs. He’s said he’s see them pop when off-roading, but not both at once. Only alternative is I had dealer do a 90k - cynically I could see them popping those to drive CV axle replacement, but that assumes a lot of dishonesty.

Certainly looks freakin mint down under, I wish mine was that clean haha. It takes a decent amount of effort to get those clamps off, as you see I had to pry at mine with a screwdriver. I don't think the clamp would have popped off from a lift, since lots of people lift and do the stretch mod as well. Might just be a weird coincidence, I dunno.
