Inside CV Re-grease, Boot Re-clamp, '07 Sport 4WD

2007 Toyota Sport 4WD

Just finished lifting 2.25" with Bilstein 5100's. Now is slinging the grease out of the right side cv profusely, and some on the left, from the axle/small side of the boots, apparently from the clamps loosening. Have inspected the boots for damage but they look good. The clamps loosening seems to be common after lifting per the multiple posts I've searched here.

I'm planning to cut the bands, slide the boots out of the way, clean the cv's thoroughly, then regrease, reboot and re clamp with new gear style clamps as recommended. I'm planning to use generic cv grease from O'Reilly Automotive, as the OEM Toyota is a bit pricey. One thing I can't confirm is how much grease to use; I read 8oz each cv but would like to confirm that is the right amount.

Anyone have any info from me or any other advice?

I know this doesn't pertain to your question but it might help or help someone else considering you're talking the messy route.

I just installed a rebuilt axle from CVJ Axles in CO.

$100 for refurb axle
$25 shipping
optional $44 inner-boot upgrade
$25 shipping core back to them ($85 core charge)
$10 diff seal
$? hub seal (if you need it, I did)

You'll need to read the thread about the swap and what tools you need but install was straightforward. I was quoted $500 for a re-boot at a local shop.

Good on you to do the work yourself!

Picked mine up today.
I did my research and decided that CVJ is the way to go.

This is what they look like with the optional red boot.
Giddyup. :cowboy:

Removed old bands, cleaned the CV and boot, re packed ang installed gear clamps on the right side today. Not too tough, used some spare kerosene then carb cleaner to clean out the old grease. And an air compressor really helped to blow out the old grease/solvent. Used 8oz of new grease, used a syringe with a short piece of hose to push the grease behind the CV. Got almost 8oz in befor I could even see any coming out.

Also installed gear clamps on the left side but didn't replace the grease. Only a little had leaked out compared to the right side.
