ok, i just saw your other thread. I see how you installed it. I also thought about putting it more downward (vertical) but the camera i had didnt have the right angle to see out far enough or basically as far as i wanted to see. That was my main concern, that is why if i would have cut into the door itself it would have fit but didnt want to do that. The other thing i guess would be to find a camera similar to size as the factory one or if they even sell that with the right interface so i can use that one and then mount it where i originally wanted. I guess i will try mine out for a while and see how it feels....

Yea I mean to each is own. I myself did consider mounting the cam on the spoiler. Who knows, I might end up putting it there later. As for the liftgate, I never cut into the door itself. I merely cut out the plastic part of the lift gate that was already outlined for where there could be a stock camera. Somehow the end of the larger cam I used fit up into that partition nearly perfectly. Have you considered running the wires for your cam through your spoiler? Im sure since we have brake lights in the spoiler, that there is a way to run the wires through.

Hi Sub,

Thats a good idea to run them through the spoiler. I noticed the 2 plastic clips that cover up the screws that are mounted to the spoiler but didnt see where the wires came in. Maybe i just need to take it off to see where they run in. Anyone removed their wing before?

here's the result on the avic-z1 screen. Its pretty nice as i can see back very far. what do you all think? I wish i could have put it where i wanted it originally, but the camera was too big so this was my alternate position....

That's actually a good idea. You don't only see the small children thru it, but adults too cuz it's higher! lol

Ok so as you all know I mounted my cam where the factory mounting opening was. Well I am on a trip in Washington, DC, and have had a good chance to try it out as I am parallel parking alot. First off, the camera has great resolution, great 100 degree wide angle, and amazing night vision. The only problem that I am noticing is that the camera may be a little too close to the damn bumper. I have a fairly restricted amount of viewing. I am thinking maybe dollaz you have a better mounting. Luckily, I just have the camera basically shoved into that hole, and not permanently mounted in any way. I guess what I will have to do is figure out a way to mount the camera to the spoiler like dollaz, and pray that I dont find it worse than it is now. If you have had any experiences with the camera on the spoiler dollaz, let me know. I really dont wanna completely rerun the wires that took me forever, only to find that I cant really see much better.

hey Sub,

I drove around all day today from parking lot to parling lot and man it was nice being able to see how close i was to the cars behind me especially when the parking lot is small and requires a tighter more careful turn. I think i really like the area its in now. Remember you wont be able to see the bumper exactly right on but its pretty darn close to it. Luckily the camera i got also allows me to tilt it to about 45 degrees without any issues being tucked under the spoiler so i can see back pretty far too. You may need to spot test the camera you have since i think you said its longer than mine to make sure you like the way it fits under the spoiler. Maybe make a template out of some pvc or something before you go through all the rewiring and all. If i can help in any way please let me know, I can take additional pictures if you need some specific shots. Maybe throw some objects down behind the 4RN and take a pic through the monitor. let me know if you need some more info....

Thanks for the help dollaz. Well after taking out the 3rd brake light on the spoiler, I think I have decided that I am going to (takes a deep breath) drill out a 1.2 inch hole in the bottom of the spoiler. I have been able to run the wires all the way to the brake light, through the spoiler. It is actually really easy. Just take a really strong wire to use as a lead wire. Take the rubber grommet off of the bottom corner of the tailgate. Take the white plastic brace thing off by pushing the tabs in on each end. You can now take the hard wire, run it through this hole all the way to the back, and just keep pushing. It will most likely take the turn of the spoiler corner fairly easily, and then you will see the wire in the spoiler. Also, to kind of backstep, to get the 3rd brakelight out, just use a phillips drill bit. I am talking about the ones that are like 3/4th of an inch. Now use a pair of pliers to turn the screws and remove the brakelight.
