Hey everyone, need some advise.

I have just over 74,000 miles on my truck and my warranty runs out at 75k. I am going to have a full inspection of my truck done by a third party just to make sure Toyota doesn't need to do some work before I hit the end of my warranty. Are there any specific areas that should be closely examined? I know uneven brake pad wear was an issue with some folks in the past. Any other known issues???

PS ~ I have the platinum warranty if this helps.

Thanks for your time.

It's running perfectly (knock on wood). I ended up having a technician do a once over on it and everything checked out.

Yeah, I remember reading about that issue in a couple threads a long time ago. Did Toyota end up covering it or not?

what is the difference between your STTs
285/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STT

and 265/70R17 ? I have factory 17"s and i am looking to get the STT's....what should i consider?

Let's take 285/70/17 as an example. 285 measures the width of the tire (285mm). Height of the tire is measured as a percentage. The "70" means the height of the tire is 70% of 285 mm (199.5mm). So a 265/70/17 is going to be a skinnier and shorter tire - 265mm wide and 185.5mm tall from outside of rim to top of tire......I hope this makes sense.

When shopping for tires, the biggest thing to consider is fitment. When I had the 285's on my truck, I still had to trim the inner fender lining and bumper even with a 3 inch lift and 1.25" wheel spacers on the stock wheels. I have heard of members on this forum getting away with 265/70/17's but I can't remember if they were regular street tires, all-terrains or mud tires as not all 265/17/70's are technically the same after you take the different tread patterns into consideration.

Anything much wider than a 265 on a stock rim will mandate wheel spacers unless you want to buy new rims with a backspacing (usually a 0 offset with 4.5-4.75 backspacing). The backspacing pushes the wheels further from the hub, allowing more space between the inside of your tire and the suspension hardware. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Don't know if this helps but......

I have an OME lift, 3" in front and 2" in rear. I also have the 1 1/4" Spidertrax wheel spacers with 275/70X17 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires on my stock rims. Even with the lift I still had to trim the inner plastic fenders up front and the corner of the bumper just in front of the front tire.
If you have any reservations about trimming, then go with the 265/70X17 STT's. I believe they are generally a bigger tire in 265/70 than other manuf tires in 265/70.
By the way, the 275/70 Goodyears just fit in the spare tire location with a little bit of pushing.
Something to consider if you need the same size spare.

Thanks guys! !!!

I have a couple more questions....I am going to buy some spacers to extend the wheels...are Spidertrax the only ones I should buy or are there some cheap ones I can get off ebay? Will they do the same job? I am talking about trying to find the traditional 1.25" ones from spidertrax in a generic version...would that be ok?

Second, I really want the COOPERS!! Are the Treks the new STT's? What is the sexiest DISCOVERER STT"S for stock 17" rims? Anyone know of a CHEAP online tire place to buy from??

Third.......I dont care about trimming my 4runner..I just dont understand some of the folks instructions on here......I really dont understand how to "PUSH BACK " the fender well...and what parts exactly would I be trimming?

DOES anyone have super detailed info and picts on trimming and pushing back the fender wells?

SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS.. I figure with everyones help on this forum we all probably could build a 4 runner from scratch! LOL

I believe I have seen some detailed pics that some members have posted on trimming and also using wire ties to pull the inner fenders forward buying an extra inch or so of clearance. Sorry, don't have a link on this.
I would go with the Spidertrax. They are quality spacers and a little more $. This is an area that you don't want to scrimp on. You could probably find some from a different manuf. on ebay or somewhere, but I wouldn't...............and didn't.

This is true. These are tried and proven and solid. I've sold many many pairs of these and the company stands behind them and is fully insured. IN stock too:

HEY ALL!

This question is for Trik444 but I will take any info from whoever.

I am sold on the coopers and tire size.........Where is the best place to buy the 285/70/17 coopers? What is a good deal as far as price?

I live in Dayton, Ohio. National Tire and Battery were no help at all when I went in there to ask questions.

With a 3/2 Cornfed and Spidertrax should I expect to have to trim and cut if I am not going off road? I am primarily getting this for looks and major snow storms we see in MICHIGAN.

I see pictures of folks showing what they cut...but I really still dont understand what people "cut" on the fenders and bumpers? Can someone give me a bit more detail what I have in store? THANKS EVERYONE!

I got mine from eastcoasttires.com

honestly their customer service sucked, but they probably know they have a pretty unbeatable price so they're cawks. I eventually got what I wanted, at a great price so they get a reluctant recommendation. They usually have ebay listings around $220 a tire, shipped. Call them and they'll do a bit better for 5.

They are completely pimp for our trucks, IMHO, where the H is humble.

Edit: As for what you'll have to cut, it will become readily apparent once they're bolted on. Spacers are a must and I'll echo the spidertrax comments. Get them. Remove front mud guards, cut where you rub and enjoy.
