Install Problems with '04 Sport w/ JBL System

Well, I went to get the stereo taken care of and ended up having a long talk with the installer about the best way to do everything. The best and right way to do everything meant buying an amp, a headunit and a LOT of work for the install. All in all it would have run me about $1000 (buying an alpine HU, an alpine 5 channel amp, swix steering wheel kit, adapter cable for my ipod etc). In the end i made the decision to put off my full stereo replacement for a few months while i purchase the equipment i want gradually. This way i will be able to get the nice stuff i want and not die trying to pay for it.
My main reason for wanting the new system was originally to attach my ipod and sirius, so i have found a quick and relatively inexpensive fix for this. I purchased the Neo Ion Ipod adapter and the toyota y-harness that is needed for the install. ($229 with 2nd day air) Theoretically i will be able to utilize one plug of the y-harness for my new Ion and the other plug for a sirius adapter. I will be installing the ion as soon as i receive it for use with my ipod, and the sirius later.
I will be doing the install myself with the help of a car audio aquaintance. I will post up pics of the install if possible when i get it done.
The ipod integration should be easy, but i dunno if anyone has tried to do both ipod and sirius, so that is still up in the air.
I will let eveyone know how it went.

If i were you i would stay away from the jbl system. Its a royal pain in the butt.
On another note, i just got my Neo Ion in the mail today. I'll be installing it hopefully this weekend, i'll let eveyone know how it goes.
By any chance does anyone have any pictures of the back of the factory JBL single disc head unit?

Neo Ion A Success
I just had my neo ion installed at best buy for 36.50. It works great, sound 100 times beter than my monster rf transmitter. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get an ipod hooked up to their t4r
The install went smooth and quick, i watched and realized it was rpretty easy. Next time i'll do it myself.

trying to understand this as best as i can...
i am installing a carpc... it has 5.1 output, i am delivering these cables to 2 amps...
1. can i take the speaker wire from the amps to the factory amp in the corner panel and splice in using that wiring diagram?
2. if the head unit is removed, does that amp in the jbl 10 speaker system still get power? how do i ensure its off otehrwise?
3. if i want to use the factory radio antenna sometime in the future - how would i go about it?
4. what is that "junction box" or whatever with 2 of the rear speakers on that wiring diagram???

Alright I work at Best Buy as an install technican, and as far as I know, circuit city did quote you about right. I would have done the same thing. Amp integrating the sub and center speaker is more trouble than it can be. But as a installer, I'm definitely going to fiddle around with my system. I just got my 05 today. I didn't even look at the truck, because my dad had one and I was like it's fine, looks good 2 miles on it. No problem... until we bought the truck and I opened it up to take a peek inside... low and behold, JBL synthesis... I was like... argh! more pain in the butt to work with. But even so, later on down the road, I'm going to install a 4 channel amp and amp for the sub, but for now, I'm just wondering what the heck to do with the center channel......... hmm...
