Installed KN CAI Today

I installed my CAI this afternoon. Early impressions are that throttle response is better but not by much. Under normal driving conditions you wouldn't know the 4Runner had a CAI installed. However, press the accelerator and the truck comes alive. There is a noticeable deep growl under heavy acceleration almost like the truck is thanking you for a breath of fresh air. So far, I am pleased. When I took the baby to the store today she was asleep. I gassed the 4R and the little one never woke up. So for now, it's a win win. I'm getting 18.6 now with mostly city driving. I will report back on MPG gains when I have the info.

Is there any resonance vibration during hard acceleration like the Volants have. I'm considering switch to K&N because of it...its a bit annoying.

Nice. I had this same intake on my V8. For me it was too loud. I replaced it with the factory system. For me it droned a bit when under load.

The vibration appears most prevalent under 3/4 acceleration. That I noticed can get a bit annoying. For the most part, it sounds great. It is loud under hard acceleration, but for day to day driving it's rarely noticeable.

I found a TRD CAI for the 4.7 sequoia but it was 400+. I’m not sure but I heard the TRD has less vibration.

This is how I'm feeling with the Volant. I think I'm going to hold out until I get and exhaust system and see how the two sound together and them I'll decide whether or not to go back to the factory intake.

I know the feeling TRD seems to be the way to go but they have to come down in price. Do you feel any more throttle response with the volant?

I'm not 100% sure...I like to tell myself it does. I kind of feel it's a bit more peppy at highway speeds. Like once I'm bombing down the freeway and 120km/h it feels like I can get to 140+ in no time but again I'm not sure, it could all be in my head.

This is the info on the TRD CAI. I've been told that the TRD will fit the 4runner with modifications that are easy to do.

Highway passing did feel faster, but again it could be the deep growl that makes it feel that way lol.

I've had the k&n for 20000 miles. No problems. Love it.

I had to cut my shield a bit for the on board air compressor system.

The more I drive it with the KN the more I like it. I'm not too technical, what is the onboard air compressor do?

It's for powering small air tools or airing up when you're out on the trail, need to perform minor repairs, etc. so that you have an air source while out in the middle of nowhere. Hear they work pretty well! :biggrin2:
