installed new led bar on rear.

Today me and my dad installed a 21.5" Miami off road led bar. With a blue sea fuse box. Ran the wires carefully without drilling any holes !! Wire has enough space and place to go behind the rear hatch. Led bar is mounted on whitson metalworks 3/4 roof rack.






I have one question about the rocker switch. How do I make it illuminate only when I turn my lights on ? Right now it stays lit all the time. The harness has a blue/white/black wire. I'm pretty sure I wired the rocker switch correctly as it works properly besides being lit all the time. I have one of the wires disconnected from it so it does not stay lit. But it still works. Any clues ?

It's a regular spst switch. #2 is IN, #3 is OUT and #7 is NEGATIVE. I have the negative not connected and it with that it's not illuminated. But if I connect my wire to it. It stays on even when key is out.

I don't think that's a good idea to have it mounted so high. How will you put stuff up on the roof rack now? If you try to load it from the back, normally one would use that top rail as a slide to slide the item up and into the rack. Now you'll have a big, breakable led bar being the contact point of whatever is being loaded into the rack.

Why not mount it so that the top of the led bar sits below the top rear rail? It would also keep it protected on the trail from being bashed by overhead limbs and such.

I'm afraid it I mount it infront of the WM logo, when opening the hatch , the rear spoiler will hit the bar. And block some of the light since it's low. But I can try it. As of now, it is very solid. As for throwing stuff on roof rack. It will really not get in a way as you still have area to throw straps and I'll throw more straps so stuff doesn't move at all. Also higher mounted really lets all the light shine and not cast any shadows. But I have my self been thinking of mounting the light on the bottom part of the roof rack. As long as the rear hatch doesn't hit the light... You got me.thinking now, what if I left the mounts on top but tilted the mounts downword.

With an illuminated Rocker it is customary for "IN" to be power, "OUT" to be what you are providing power to. And (Negative) would be the ground for the internal light. If it is wired this way and the the light is on in either position, then you have a bad switch.

Now the real question here is ARE YOU USING A RELAY? Because if you aren't, you should be, and if you are I need to know if you are switching hot or ground.

Yes. Using relay. It Is a premade harness. If I knew what the 3 colors represented it would be easier. The harness has 1 white, 1 blue 1 black going to the switch. The stupid stock switch that comes with the harness. Ofcourse I cut of the old switch and now with the new switch. I have the black going to #7 negative,( makes the switch stay illmunated even when key out ), and if I rememeber correctly, the white going to #2 IN and the blue to #3 OUT. I removed the black from #7 and the illumination is off but switch works.

Those colors mean nothing to me, you need to KNOW what these wires are if you want to troubleshoot this. Do you have a test light? Check which wire is power and which wire goes to the load(light). Then see if your switch is correct for the application. Google (Illuminated Rocker Switch Wiring), you'll see there is many different styles and set ups.

You didn't tell me what you are switching on the relay! You may not know, we can figure it out, if you want.

Swap the in and out wires on the switch. That should make the light only come on when the switch is on.

Backup lights are amazing. The big bar should work awesome. I used some of the dually style lights.

Swap the in and out wires on the switch. That should make the light only come on when the switch is on.

Yeah, it's that simple. The "out" circuit it connected to the light, and the ground(negative) terminal. If you have the power to the "out" and the light connected to the "IN", it will still turn the light on and off, but the light would be on all the time.

As for the light being on even with the key off, that tells me the power you have going to the switch is not on/off with the key, it is ALWAYS hot. Hope it is fused.

The spoiler isn't actually completely unnecessary. It helps to keep the back window and hatch clean by moving the air a certain way. I drove with mine off for a few days while I painted it and there was so much grass clippings and stuff stuck to the back it was crazy.

I wouldn't mind mounting some sort of lights back there for when I'm backing up on a dark trail at night. I can't see a thing right now.
