Installer messed up--what is my recourse?

Hi Guys,
Backstory: I got myself a Prinsu rack and did not want to install/drill hole on my truck --wanted professional help doing so.
I found an installer in my area who was willing to do it and assured me he had done this before. I sent him the instruction manuals etc.

After the installation was complete, I go out and check the truck to see 2 additional holes on each side of the truck. They were plugged and bolted in.

When I asked him what happened, he told me they messed up and fixed it. They did charge me 2 hours of labor.

The roof rack itself is installed properly but I see two additional holes that were plugged.

What would you guys in this situation? I was going to talk to them again but do you guys see any troubles in the horizon with this?

That SUCKS! At the very least they should comp you the labor. And who, pray tell, in our fine city did this?
 
Sorry to hear about the damage - That sucks and there is no way around it.

I'd recommend at a minimum you reach out and calmly but firmly explain it's unacceptable that you have two extra holes in your Runner, even if they have been "fixed." You expect a refund for the labor since they mis-represented their ability to properly install the rack. If you think it will make a difference, at the right time, you can also threaten to publicize online the lack of quality and how they mislead you.

The second option is whether you want to sue them for damages. There is potential for a thousands in damages...but its also a lot of work and risk.

Bolted in plugs is not a proper repair. Welded in plugs, grind and repaint is the proper repair. Make them pay to have that done at a body shop of your choice.
 
If they are reluctant to make the proper repair- hit them where it hurts. Honest, but factual Yelp, google, Angie’s list, et al. Contact your local media outlets as many stations have a consumer advocate who may publicize the case for you. Also make a FB post and ask all your friends to share it. Good luck.
 
Thanks for the replies guys. I will talk to the company tomorrow.
Hopefully he accepts to fixing it the right way.

I am not keen on suing but if it comes to that, so be it. I hope things can be worked out without going through those hassles.

This is what I was told by a couple of other guys too. This sucks. :frusty:

Wow they had the balls to charge you labor. I would've expected them do install it for free and offer you more as well.

Not sure how big of a shop we are talking about. But if its something that bothers you then you should definitely have them get it fixed properly. If its less of issue for you i would definitely expect a refund for the install and some sort of othef kickback. Like a crazy deal on parts or something of the sort. Best of luck.
 
They are a decent sized shop and apparently in business for about 50 years.

Fixing it --I am tending to getting it done the right way as I have questions like will the silicone + bolt hold its shape for years to come? or will it just fail few years down the road at which point I will have no leverage to get it fixed from these guys.

I read up a little on fixing these and doesn't look like an easy job :(

Oh man, I would have went ballistic. Unfortunately since you accepted the vehicle back you may not have much recourse, however I hope that they will work with you and help pay for the repairs since they are at fault. What a mess
 
Is that really something they can argue with? They were almost closed by the time they finished up and I was honestly just confused what to do, hence drove the truck back home.

What kind of redneck shop did you take your truck to? Holy crap, man... that's the kind of fix you'd expect from Farmer Joe on his beat up 40 year old tractor, not from a "professional" shop. That looks like shit - total half-ass hillbilly work. Actually, I've seen hillbillys do better - I shouldn't have disrespected them like that!

I wouldn't be able to live with that in any way, shape or form. Heck, I'm getting all worked up about it and it isn't even my truck! Best of luck to you on this one!

they drilled the roof... thats no where near where they should have drilled..

they need to fix this properly... looks like shit right now
 
If they don't resolve to your satisfaction get a couple of estimates to fix it properly and file in Small Claims Court.... seems like it will be an easy win.
