Installing a Subwoofer In a 3rd Gen

Today I installed a subwoofer in my 3rd gen. Here is how it went down.

I realize installing a subwoofer in any car is pretty simple. But if anyone is wondering about wiring routes or anything, you can reference this thread.

Materials Needed:
Amplifier
Amplifier wiring kit
Subwoofer
A good set of tools

I started by taking out the back lower seats and removing all the side panels and floor-boards.


Then I drilled a hole in the firewall to send the power wire through.


Then I ran the wire along the floor panels. I ran all the power cords along the left side and all the audio wires along the right side.

Then I ran it under the carpet under the back seat.


Then I wired the remote power wire to my head-unit.


Next I attached the RCA cables to the head-unit.

The only thing left was to run the hot wire to the battery and then ground the amp.

Unfortunately my pictures didnt turn up, so I'll just tell you how I did it. I hooked the power wire up to the amp and then to the battery. I grounded the amp to a tie down bolt in the cargo area.

Ta-da! And i'm done.

I would suggest putting a rubber gromet in the hole you drilled through the fire wall to prevent the power wire from chaffing. Last thing you want is to have your power wire short out on the firewall.

why do u guys always drill holes in the firewall, its easy to cut a small slit in the factory gromet and feed the wire through. get some silicone spray to help feed the wire, its less messier than wd40.

I had the factory head replaced recently as the radio would not output sound from time to time, the shop told me it was the built in amp and bypassed it. The upshot of this is I no longer have the factory subwoofer and the sound is tinny as heck. I dont want to fit some huge trunk sub, does anyone know if there is some kind of workaround for maybe wiring in the factory sub (to be fair I do not even know there the sub is)

Any help greatly appreciated.
