Installing a TRD CAI soon. Any tips?

I received the TRD CAI for my '08 4.0L V6 Sport today and will probably be installing it within the next week or so (or sooner, depending on how itchy I get waiting) so I can get the garage down to just 1 car and warmed up (frickin' north...). I read thru the instructions and it seems pretty straight forward but I thought I'd ask if there were any tips 'n tricks from those that have done it already.

Thanks. I forgot about that. To reset the ECU on my 3rd gen I pulled the EFI fuse for a few minutes. Is that the same procedure for the 4th gen?
 
I'd prefer to not have to disconnect the battery if I don't have to. Don't want to lose the radio presets...
 
If memory serves me correctly, the instructions do not match what was present in my 08. I think the instructions call for you to remove a bolt holding an AC line I think and replace it with a threaded mount. Under my hood there was nothing bolted into the hole where the airbox mounts, so I didn't have to remove the AC line mount, making an easy install easier. I'd bet you will find the same thing I did, since you've got an 08 too. Oh yeah, don't forget the Teflon tape and just use vice grips the 12 sided stud if you don't have the correct socket. I'm not sure you have to reset the ECU, after a few thousand miles the computer will adjust to the new intake, right?
 
I recently installed the TRD CAI... The first item on the instruction is to disconnect the battery, no? I don't recall if it's the positive or negative...

there is no need to reset the ecu, the computer is smart and itll recalculate almost immediately

its a very easy install, about 30 mins
 
Thanks for the info, gents. Since I don't intend on disconnecting the battery for the install if I don't need to solely for the ECU, I'm still wondering if pulling the EFI fuse will reset it like it did in my 3rd gen. Anyone?

aaronfro17, I noticed no A/C line mount in the location stated in the instructions, also, as you mentioned.
 
yes , it should do the same thing. as far as resetting is concerned, its suggested after any mods because there are old start -stop peramiters, codes , etc. stored, & a new one can maybe cause a conflict with the old ones. & cause things like slightly rough idle in the beginning, etc. resetting it wipes these & starts the learning process anew. its not required, but suggested.

Silly question, but, I want the TRD CAI, do I get the Tacoma or FJ and is there a difference?? I'm sure it's on here, but I've checked and read so many threads, but no one mentions this. Thanks

Save some money and get the real one made by aFe, the Trd one is just a rebadged afe one with one exception, the trd one doesn't have a port on the bottom of the air box to draw hot air from the engine bay, I have the aFe one and it has a port along with a plug you can use when your gonna be driving through rivers, my friend has the trd one and he cut it up to have a port like I do

Afe has a model for the 4runner, I'm not sure if there is a difference between the Tacoma and fj trd one-

but if you wanna pay the extra for the trd to have the badge, you should then haha
 
I looked on eBay for AFE and all I saw was the Stage 2, and it's at least 50 dollars more than the TRD. I'll keep looking....
