Installing Pioneer radio

Hello all,
I am planning to install a Pioneer FH-S701BS into my 2008
I had this in a 2001 and needed a wire harness for it in order to connect the radio to the existing connectors.
Is there a special wire harness/connector I will need to put it in the 2008?

A few things to consider, steering wheel controls, do you have navigation, impedance of existing speakers (my 2004 has 2 ohm speakers), antenna adapters and more. Some of us have amplifiers some do not. If I can give you any help it is to know the entire job before buying.

Some places for info are Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, Pro Audio, 4k TV expensive but helpful. You can just shop using your year vehicle and you will learn about the different adapter harnesses. Youtube videos like YouTube just make sure you get the right adapters for your specific vehicle and not just the one in the video.

do a "search" in the 4th gen forums also, there is a lot of info.

There are adapter harnesses for the stereo, steering wheel, and antennas. I have zero knowledge of your existing stereo but these are questions that need to be answered.

My vehicle doesn't have steering wheel controls or amplifiers and no navigation stuff....just a basic Toyota stereo set up.

if the new 4runner is equipped with the standard radio, the old radio can be a plug and play, also youll be loosing the steering wheel controls. i use idatalink maestro sw for that, now for dash kit, if your car is the standard radio, metra 95-8202 is the dash kit for the double din.

Question if anyone knows.
I installed the Radio
And of course Toyota has the 2 antennas, so I had to get an adapter for the mini antenna and then connect the two antennas into a harness to plug into the radio.
For the most part the stations come in fine, but they are not as good/clear as they were with the factory radio.
I heard mention of the blue wire being connected somewhere in order to get better signals
What is that about?
Is there a better adapter to use for the mini antenna? Because when I put the adapter on the mini, it didn't feel like it seated quite right.
I used the SCOSCHE MDAB 1988-05 GM Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter to plug into a XCSOURCE SKAA-26 1 Male to 2 Female Auto Antenna Adaptor Cable

The 4Runner antenna has an pre-amplifier built in the system, and your reception will be crap f you don’t hook it up. Hook up that lead to a switched power circuit...the new radio harness likely has a blue wire labeled “amp” or “power antenna” you can use for this.

So that would be the Blue wire on the Metra wire harness to the Blue-White wire on the Pioneer harness?

As a follow up
I did connect the Blue wire from the harness to the Blue-White wire on the Pioneer connector. That seems to have done the trick. :clap2:

It’s the blue wire in the stock harness.

It will be the blue wire from the Toyota side of the harness, connecting to the Blue-White wire on the Pioneer side of the harness.

I understand the blue-to-blue&white wire concept, but what about the two antenna inputs? Does anyone have a recommendation on an adapter (i.e. Y adapter or similar)? Thanks in advance

You don't need to hook up both. Just hook up the one with the normal sized connector and let the other one dangle.

Are you happy with that Pioneer HU? Whould you recommend it?

Sorry for being off topic. I'm hunting for a good head unit for my car. I'm in research mode for a few months now. I'm more lost than ever.

Don't get me wrong the net is filled with hyped up product reviews. At the moment I'm looking at Pioneer but nothing is set in stone. Along my journey I've came through a website. It's a lot different from those over-hyped blogs. It seems to be the real deal because the reviews are critical. So much so that it has put me on the fence. Just look at this Pioneer review and you will have questions as well.

At the moment I've shortlisted the pioneer avh-601ex. How bad is the Bluetooth lag? And what about the AppRadio is it DOA?

I'm open for suggestions.

Man, installing radio is a tricky experiment for me. I like doing something new even did some melscience experiments but I would pay a professional for that. I don't think it would cost too much.

You can buy a terrific step-by-step guide specific to the 4th Gen 4Runner from Crutchfield. They call it a MasterSheet and it's about $10. I also highly recommend buying your sound gear from them as they provide lifetime phone support. You can call them about anything from what setup will work best in your car to installation to troubleshooting or advice. I've called them years after a purchase and they're always happy to help. And the MasterSheet is free with a purchase.
