I have a 99 TR4 and it's great! I love her... yes, I said her! Anyways, everything is working as far as the lights on the dash except for my clock, and where the A/C dials. I've checked the fuses and they're all fine. On the A/C dials, nothing lights up except the little light that says AC, everything else around it is dead. I started my truck one morning and the clock came on briefly, then turned back off. I'm assuming that this means I may possibly have a short or something? Am I correc to assume this?

Oh yeah, I've checked my dimmer switch too and it's fine. The PRND12 don't light up either (not the one on the dash).
 
So except for the lights, everything works functionally? Like your HVAC controls work but they don't light up?
 
Right... everything WORKS... but they don't light up. Like I said, it's the clock, the panel that shows the controls for the HVAC, and the gear shift at the bottom. I take it you may have a solution...? Pleeeeeeeeeease say you do! LMAO
 
LMAO well I don't have a solution right this second but I'll talk to my friend that works at Toyota and ask him. I find it hard to believe that all of those bulbs went out at once.

Nice to see someone else from Atlanta on here BTW. I haven't seen many of us LOL :biggrin2:

ha ha ha ha... I was born in Long Beach, lived there til I was 5 and then we moved to Palmdale... OMG... small world!

I talked to my friend and he wanted me to ask has anyone been behind the dash in that area like putting in an aftermarket radio or anything like that? He agrees that it would be very odd for all of that to go out at once. If there was someone in there, they might have pinched a wire.
 
Honestly, I've only had her for 2 weeks and they haven't been on at all since I've had her. The stereo is the original stereo and I don't think anything has been touched. So... go figure. I may need to take it into the Toyota shop here on Roswell Rd.
 
Oh you are in Sandy Springs? I wouldn't take it to Sandy Springs Toyota LOL! I personally would take it to either Marietta Toyota or Cobb County Toyota in Kennesaw. My friend sells parts at Marietta Toyota and my mom had great luck taking her Celica to Cobb County Toyota when she owned one. I sell parts at an Infiniti dealership so I get our techs to do the work on my 4Runner.

What brought you to Georgia if you don't mind me asking. I damn sure didn't come out here by choice, myself haha :biggrin2:

Weird! I have a 1997 LTD and I have the same problem. The clock stopped working and the lights to the vent panels went out.
It would be nice to know if you find what caused this symptom.
 
Well I guess Marietta or Kennesaw would be closer... I was saying Sandy Springs because I work here. But I live in Austell. Anyways, I came to GA for job opp... Great pay and lots to do. I moved here actually from Dallas Texas, so I got bored with the cowboy scene and decided I needed a little bit more "Southern Hospitality". I'm used to the country because I went to college in Oklahoma, so I'm not too much of a city girl anymore!

Well I was saying Marietta or Kennesaw because I have heard horror stories about Sandy Springs Toyota. I wouldn't recommend any place especially a dealership unless I would feel comfortable bringing my 4Runner there. I'm curious as to what would have caused this also. If I can come up with anything else to check or any more answers I'll definitely let you know. If you end up wanting to take it to Marietta Toyota I may be able to get a service writer's name to talk to that my friend trusts for ya if you want! :bigok:
 
Oh that would be great. I'm thinking of taking it in this week... not because of that problem... but because an idiot hit me from behind Sunday when I was coming from my daughters basketball game. Luckily, she hit my towing hook and she got the brunt of the damage. So I'll just have them check everything then. Damn, I haven't even had the truck 2 wks and this crap happens...
 
Oh that sucks! How bad is the damage to your Runner? Is it just the hitch? I called my friend and he is going to call me back to let me know who you should talk to because he was slammed at the moment. I'll send you a PM when he does which hopefully should be soon. :bigok:
 
In response to the question about the lights... When I bought my 4Runner the light to the AC and the light to the shifter were out. I never had any problem with clock. The AC just pull off the rubber ends to the knobs and use a flat head screwdriver to pop off the cover. It has been a while but I believe you then take three screws out and the bulb is right there. There isn't much too it. It took me about 45 minutes but I'm 16 so I was pretty cautious about breaking my new car.

For the shifter you can pull off the console by removing the bolts inside the console and two pins by the feet of the driver and passenger. Then pull out the console and the bulb is under there. It twists to be taken out of the hole it goes in. Then just pop it back in. Again only an hour or so project because I was cautious and it is pretty dirty under there so I did some cleaning.

So there is only one bulb that illuminates the whole HVAC panel? I was told there was a few in there. Mine aren't out so I have never had the need to take any of it off LOL
 
Ok... so the funny thing is, I'm riding home from work and I'm looking at the panel and wondering "what am I not doing here that I can't figure this out?" So I'm in traffic, and I'm constantly breaking for the dumb dumbs in front of me and my foot hits a wire. Hmmmm??? What's this? Oh wow... I totally forgot that where I got the car, they had "security" devices on every vehicle. So I'm wondering if when they attached these devices, did they screw something up inside the panels? I don't know. But where the A/C is, it's lit up on ONE small button that says AC, but the rest is out. I was thinking it might be the bulb too, but when I saw that button light and everything else around it out, I didn't know. It wouldn't make sense to have more than one bulb lighting one small panel would it?
 
I think there are several in there actually. I mean, it's possible that they just went out over time and just need to be replaced, but that just seems odd that that many of them are all out. As far as the security wire, it's hard to say without seeing it what it affects and what it is.

Did you get my PM about the dealership?
