I did. They would pay for it, but I'd then pay $1,000 deductible and they'd subrogate. My experience has been that my own insurance doesn't pursue subrogation very strongly against a 3rd party. They'll make a claim, but they won't put much effort into it.
The body shop that you go to can also help you out. On my previous car I got hit, the guy had no insurance so my insurance had to pay. They said aftermarket parts only. The shop i took it to replied back to them and said after market wheel tolerance is XX, the manufacturer says the wheels have to be within YY, are you saying to put something potentially not safe and out of manufacture spec on the car? insurance backed off and I got all OEM parts, etc. Supposedly they also do work for the dealership so they can get OEM parts for close to what they would pay for after market, so I'm sure that helped. It added a week or so to the repair time while they hassled my insurance company, but I never had to call or do anything.
Don't mean to pile on Geico here, but we had an atrocious experience with Geico after a driver who rear-ended us that was insured by Geico. Their Geico agent came out and simply wanted to repair the cover even though the foam underneath had been smashed. The foam had done its job and absorbed the energy, but has to be replaced in order to absorb energy if it happens again. Geico did not want to replace the foam, attempting to just correct the cosmetics. It took no small amount of hassle dealing with them and ultimately, I had to get my insurance company involved who duked it out with Geico behind the scenes.
Awful company...
.....When it comes to body shops, I want them to be ugly, no different than if I was hiring an attorney.
Ky4Runner1,
What is the reasoning behind a body shop being ugly....
do you mean, hole in the wall, unkempt with sh!t thrown around everywhere?
I would explain to them that they are required to make it as was before the accident. Toyota didn't use aftermarket parts on the assembly line. If you have trouble, contact your insurance company they'll go to bat for you.
I was referring to his nasty take no sh*t attitude towards these adjusters.
If you get your insurance involved, the first thing they will do is check your driving record.
If they find any violations, they will most certainly raise your rates etc....
Uh, they keep tabs on your driving record all the time. They don't wait for you to file a claim before checking on your record.

Uh, so what are you trying to say? They are checking everyday? I don't think so...
I am sure at some point they check but it is automatic when you get your insurance involved.
I would never get my insurance involved if it was not my fault etc...
Just gives them an excuse to start digging etc...
Just thought I'd give a quick update. Geico reconsidered it's estimate and has decided to pay for a new bumper and new Toyota OEM parts. It's at the shop. I'll update once more when it's done.
