Insurance Frustration!

I was in a simular situation not long ago with another vehicle. I would 100% contact your insurance company and let the two companies deal with each other. Also don't forget to final a diminished value claim as well, in order to be made whole again. Best of luck!

Re: Geico

Don't mean to pile on Geico here, but we had an atrocious experience with Geico after a driver who rear-ended us that was insured by Geico. Their Geico agent came out and simply wanted to repair the cover even though the foam underneath had been smashed. The foam had done its job and absorbed the energy, but has to be replaced in order to absorb energy if it happens again. Geico did not want to replace the foam, attempting to just correct the cosmetics. It took no small amount of hassle dealing with them and ultimately, I had to get my insurance company involved who duked it out with Geico behind the scenes.

Awful company...

I did. They would pay for it, but I'd then pay $1,000 deductible and they'd subrogate. My experience has been that my own insurance doesn't pursue subrogation very strongly against a 3rd party. They'll make a claim, but they won't put much effort into it.

If you get your insurance involved, the first thing they will do is check your driving record.
If they find any violations, they will most certainly raise your rates etc....

The body shop that you go to can also help you out. On my previous car I got hit, the guy had no insurance so my insurance had to pay. They said aftermarket parts only. The shop i took it to replied back to them and said after market wheel tolerance is XX, the manufacturer says the wheels have to be within YY, are you saying to put something potentially not safe and out of manufacture spec on the car? insurance backed off and I got all OEM parts, etc. Supposedly they also do work for the dealership so they can get OEM parts for close to what they would pay for after market, so I'm sure that helped. It added a week or so to the repair time while they hassled my insurance company, but I never had to call or do anything.

My bodyshop guy has been in the biz for over 30 years and he is an ass to deal with.
Insurance adjusters know better than to try and get him to go with aftermarket parts etc...

My bodyshop guy said Geico is absolutely the worst when it comes to adjusters.
Like I said, they have enough experience with him to know not to go down the road of aftermarket parts.
He does all the body work for the BMW dealership.
When it comes to body shops, I want them to be ugly, no different than if I was hiring an attorney.

What is the reasoning behind a body shop being ugly....
do you mean, hole in the wall, unkempt with sh!t thrown around everywhere?

I didn't have too big of an issue to get Geico to fix my wife's previous 2014 4Runner when she was hit. It took forever to get the adjuster on the phone but once we did we took it got an estimate and they sent a check. I told them I only wanted Toyota to fix it and that's where I took it. Toyota billed Geico for the remaining balance.
I also had my attorney involved cause the lady at fault cussed out my wife, had been drinking, and admitted to police she had taken prescription pills as well.

I was referring to his nasty take no sh*t attitude towards these adjusters.

I would explain to them that they are required to make it as was before the accident. Toyota didn't use aftermarket parts on the assembly line. If you have trouble, contact your insurance company they'll go to bat for you.

EXACTLY!! This is called "INDEMNIFICATION" Insurance companies are supposed to indemnify you for the loss! Aftermarket parts and cheap fixes are not putting you back to where you were before the loss. I would contact your State's Insurance Commissioner and complain if you don't get anywhere with Geico.

Uh, they keep tabs on your driving record all the time. They don't wait for you to file a claim before checking on your record.

Uh, so what are you trying to say? They are checking everyday? I don't think so...
I am sure at some point they check but it is automatic when you get your insurance involved.
I would never get my insurance involved if it was not my fault etc...
Just gives them an excuse to start digging etc...

I've only had 2 speeding tickets in 20 years. And believe it or not I've never been in an accident other than being rear ended twice at stop lights with no damage. I've dealt with insurance twice in the past, once with a tow company that did a bunch of damage to my car when I wasn't there and once with the Lexus dealership who damaged my car. Also while I was not there. I guess I've been lucky so far.

IIRC they use a reporting system so they automatically get a notification if you've been cited by the police. I'd guess the system is automated so it does a batch query every day if it's not automated the other way to just insert the info into your file.

I had a speeding ticket on my record for 2 years and never had an issue until my insurance company got involved in a wreck that was not my fault.
Go figure.

They have an automatic reporting system that keeps them notified of any tickets you get.

Just thought I'd give a quick update. Geico reconsidered it's estimate and has decided to pay for a new bumper and new Toyota OEM parts. It's at the shop. I'll update once more when it's done.

nice, have the shop upgrade it to shrockworks bumper and you pay the difference.

Insurance agent here... Above posts are correct. Notify your own company and let it go to subrogation between them. You will have to pay your deductible most likely, but should receive it back once they settle.

Picked my 4runner up on Saturday. I've been busy and haven't put up a fix post. I was clear with the body shop - I had a little pow wow before I left my 4runner there - that they work for me and I don't give a rip what Geico things. I want it repaired the way I want it repaired. I'll handle Geico on my own for any issues with payment.

Repair was done very well. No re-spray of the fender. It was done paintless - although I believe it was removed to do so. But I kept all original pain on the metal parts. And the fix looks excellent. The bumper was a new OEM toyota bumper and new OEM toyota headlight. I also noted that they used all new hardware that is all OEM toyota. So the clips, bolts, etc are all new. All the little things were done right. It's not expensive to replace those parts, but most shops re-use them. I went to the only Toyota certified repair shop in Utah, so maybe that's part of the certification requirements. I rarely sing the praises of a service provider, and I've never in my life left a body shop totally happy with the work. So.. this is a first for me.

The pictures I took are blurry when I just looked at them. But basically it's what a new white trail edition 4runner looks like. I do need to re-do my clear bra though. I wasn't sure about the color match and peeled it off the fender to verify that the bumper matched the fender. It did. The clear bra was yellow a bit and it looked wrong until I peeled it off. Glad they matched the fender not the yellow hew of the bra. But now I do need to install a new bra. No big deal. I put this one on when it was new, so I have a good idea of how it goes on.
