Interest in Custom built 4th gen V8 4.7 Doug Thorley Headers

Would you like the DT headers to have a Highflow catalytic converter?

Read through that, really not difficult at all. They bent the dipstick tube a little so it was lined up right and then banged in a tub that was to close to the steering shaft. I found a local shop that was going to build me a set from scratch for 2k, then I found out about this and he said he would make them fit for ~500. You can't just go to a muffler shop though, they are just glorified gorilla's usually that know very little, you need to go to a shop that works on high performance stuff, Tuner cars, Etc and they will do it. Either way, check out what Nathan did, he's even running a Supercharger on his 4.7 now!

Very cool info t-man, thank you!

Edit: So I found the Tundra headers on-line and they're $825 brand new. When it comes down to it even with the other needed components, the price might be less than or equal to what new OEM 4Runner parts cost and its better. If I can recall isn't it something like $2000 for 4Runner catalytics at the dealership......

New replacement is quite expensive but includes new cats and is completely bolt on. The real point of the headers is to delete the cats or switch to a high flow style cat. If you look around you can find the headers much cheaper, for example; http://www.amazon.com/Doug-Thorley-...300&sr=8-8&keywords=toyota+tundra+4.7+headers
Getting them to fit will likely cost you a couple hundred bucks unless you can do it yourself, and you will also have to have a y-pipe made up because your stock on will not fit without major modification. In the end it will probably cost the same, but you will have much more performance and better sound from the header than any restrictive stock manifold/cat setup. and they won't crack again as the stock ones always do.
One other thing, you will need the rear O2 sensor from URD; https://urdusa.com/store/Electronic...V8,-2005-2006,-Dual-Channel/product_info.html This will keep codes away for that shiny new, and completely badass exhaust!!

I really hate you for doing this to me. Now I'm going to find some reason to buy this shit when everything (knock on wood) is working fine.

Ya, trying to get the finds together myself. Doug thorley headers, true dual exhaust, undecided mufflers. Probably magnaflow. Have to get the URD o2 simulator too.

Actually - Just had a thought...:peep:
If you're talking to DT, maybe they'd consider a run with High Flow Cats that would bolt into the factory y-pipe. That'd likely solve your code issue since the sensors are before and after the primary cats... nothing after the secondary cats

DT HEADERS are on order. Sept 4 expected ship date

Please keep us posted on how the installation goes, cost of installation, extra parts, etc. I seriously need to do something about my manifold leak, and appreciate the beta.

Also in Ontario and just got my first 4runner. Looking at replacing the exhaust manifold (cracked) with the Thorley headers (or possibly a set-up from DirtyDeeds) and the rest of the exhaust. I saw you'd had a lot of work done on your V8 - did you have any issues passing the emissions test? Just want to make sure that if I spend this much $$ I won't have any issues.

Sorry for the late reply but I don't frequent the forum often these days since I sold my 4runner. Not sure if someone has answered you yet but personally, I had no issues passing etest. I didn't have these particular headers but as long as you can confirm that they will not trip a CEL then your good.

I thought there was also a visual inspection to make sure all the factory emissions systems are place but I had gotten rid of the third cat and they didn't say anything at Canadian Tire. If your really unsure I would go talk to the techs where you plan on getting the etest done and ask them.

Good luck, can't stress enough how great this modification is! You definitely will not be disappointed.

No Worries about the timing - I really appreciate the response. I'm trying to get URD to make a Y-Pipe and have already done the cat-back myself so the Headers will be the next step... just working from the tail-pipe forward I guess. The new note from the Gibson sounds great, but the tick is still maddening so I'm looking forward to curing that.

As for e-test I'm pretty sure you're right, from asking around pretty much everything goes through the ODB - they just plug in and run the readings.

I highly doubt it, but has anyone dyno'd the a V8 with headers installed?

or done a before and after 0-60?

If I recall, Doug Thorley did a dyno test on the first v8 4runner they had in shop with the headers installed, the gain numbers werent too shabby

I saw a few pages back they mentioned 35 torque, but never mentioned it with any proof, or RPM range. They never did discuss HP either.

JGardiner: My next door neighbour's brother does a lot of TIG welding for a living. I was going to ask him if he could put flanges on the DT headers when I get them. He could probably make up the Y pipe as well. He mad some excellent looking headers for his son's turbo Mustang. How do you feel about E test with 2 of the three cats missing?

Installed the cat back today. very easy install, but removing the old tail pipe was a PITA. I had to jack up the frame and remove the spare to get it out. Much quieter now. Where it joined the Y pipe, there were two bolts that we spring loaded. These did not survive, and it was not part of the kit I ordered. I just used some nuts and bolts that I had. Does it matter if these are spring loaded bolts?

So you got around to having the headers installed? And did you have that cat-less y-pipe fabricated you mentioned? Details please

Headers are on order, supposed to ship Sept 4. Can't do anymore until they are received, but the cat back shipped with an extra pipe before the muffler. It's for the V6. I am thinking that maybe one cat located on this pipe instead of the 4 other ones. I wonder why they have two in series on each downpipe.

Not sure if anyone has answered this, but can these manifolds fit on the 03-04 even with the air injection pipe? Or does it get in the way for the non-vvti v8?

Yesterday morning I took my '05 V8 Sport with 70K to a local Toyo dealer for my timing belt maintenance replacement. I got the call later that afternoon that they installed a defective belt and have damaged a drivers side valve and will have my truck for maybe a week! I have the notorious 'manifold' leak and wondered whether I should have them replace the manifold with the DT headers while they have everything apart?? Any Input??

Do it! Might as well fix it all at once if you can afford the costs. Can't believe they had a defective belt... That's crazy!
