Yup.
I believe he means they will have to be welded to the y-pipe instead of bolting to it.

Bony, I'm SO thrilled that my thread I started a few years ago finally got some attention back and started buzzing again. Thank you for stepped up and re-talking to Doug Thorley. I'm glad they have seen the light. If I wasn't in Maine and lived in CA I'm sure I could have gotten the ball rolling for us a few years ago, but you can only do so much from email and phone calls. hahaha. With all honesty, all it took was a call to Doug Thorley, a little persuading, and offering them my car for the build; that was it. They are great guys to work with and im stoked that we are finally getting some headers built. They said for me to check back in August and see where they are at. At the moment they just have the mock up. Now they need to make the molding and get them made. Next time they have my car, it will be installed and dyno'ed to see performance gains.

I wonder if the pre 05 V8's could just remove the air injection pipe or are there other differences??

I've got a 2003 that ping & pops when it's cold and I would definitely buy/upgrade to headers (& high flow cat if available) if and when they are available.

If you own an 03-04 non vvti just buy the pacesetter. People have had good luck with them. Great price and perfect fit. I wish the 05-09 people even had an option. This my be our only hope other then OEM.

I have a feeling it will be the only option. Haven't there been issues with throwing Codes with the Pacesetter's?
I have a 2004 limited 4.7l and am very interested in dt headers. I recently added a k&n cold air intake, a magnaflow high flow main cat, and a 3 in cat back single exhaust. I have the ticking from the manifolds and would like to improve that restriction. I also have a trd supercharger i plan to add later possibly after beefing up the lower end. It already sounds mean except the ticking sound. I am also wondering if adding any kind of body lift/block mount lift would affect the clearance for headers positively or negatively.
The 4runner is at 182,000 miles but still runs great and i love this thing!

I too can be added to the list of interested buyers.
I welded one cracked manifold a couple weeks ago, and will be addressing the other side this week. I was quoted a bit over $700 each side for stock replacements at cost for parts only, by a non-Toyota mechanic. If headers were available I'd have sprung for those. For now it seemed like a "little to lose" situation just to try welding them and seeing how long the stock manifolds might last.
Realizing you need 25+ firm commitments, my interest will be reduced somewhat for as long as these welds last, but I was ready to buy only a couple weeks ago, and expect I probably will be again, possibly sooner than later. I am, at the very least, another data point.

I really don't care about having the cats. That can be remedied with an o2 simulator.
I guess my only concern with the cats and bolt on vs welding is that if the headers are coated, and you have to weld anything on them that kind of defeats the purpose of them being coated. If I have to get them welded, I'd rather get them bare and have them coated after all the welding is complete.
