Okay, so here is an interesting thread.

My 2006 4Runner V6 has 90,000 Miles with an AFE Stage 2 Intake, Gibson Catback Exhaust, URD MAF CAL, Sprint Booster, and NST Manifold Spacer.

My Mom's 4Runner is a 2006 4Runner V6 with 159,000 Miles FULLY STOCK.

So My brother was in my Mom's 4Runner and I was in mine and we raced.

We went from 0-110......A TIE
We went from 20-60.......A TIE
We went from 60-110....A TIE

We BOTH had no passengers, about the same amount of gas, and we were both in "Drive" gear to keep it fair. If ANYTHING my engine should be in better shape since I have NEARLY have half the miles as my moms.

The race was neck and neck. Considering all the mods I've done to my SUV, I feel that something is wrong here, I should easily be able to walk a STOCK 4Runner considering I nearly have full bolt ons.

I don't think the mileage really matters as long as both trucks were maintained well, I doubt it would be losing any power, especially since 159,000 is a lot for an '06 (I thought my '06 was high with 110,000) so it is assumed most of those miles were highway miles. Those mods may have added some horsepower but driver error may have voided whatever power was added. Did you both get a good jump off the line, and at the same time?
 
Could've been a drivers race, maybe your brother got a better reaction time off the line. Lots of things to consider, weight of both drivers, tire pressures, engines healthy or not and etc. If anything you should have pulled on him.

I consider this some decent anecdotal evidence that all those expensive add-on's are just a huge waste on money on today's cars. Your ECU and expensive sensor system is already doing all it can to make your combustion cycle operate as best as possible at any moment.

Maybe use this as an excuse to not spend money on these silly, nearly worthless things.

Most of those "go fast" easy gain are gimmicks that only make your wallet lighter, faster.
 
I have a feeling you would be better off with either intake OR exhaust. The combination can actually decrease torque, especially in modern engines.

Agreed. That's why I'm just going to be putting on a Gibson catback to hear the sweet burble of this V8.

Yup you basically paid money to make you 4runner sound loud.
 
Switch drivers, have your brother drive yours and you drive your moms and see if you get the same results or different:lookout:
 
i agree with everyone else. the so called "mods" you've done virtually do nothing interms of performance to gain you more HP. with the exception of the CAI which will probably net you 5-7 rwhp which you wouldnt notice in everyday driving anyways. the only way you're gonna make any kind of real hp is by getting into the motor or adding forced induction. the only exception to that would be headers which should net you a decent amount of power.
 
Those are very minimal mods honestly. Also in addition to the 2wd vs 4wd, model trim weight also come into play. Driver mod also come into play, but for sake of simplicity I've leave it out. 1GR's like free flowing exhaust and I'm not talking some fancy catback. Header's, Y pipe, or both will help out in a great deal. The maf cal is a good unit but you will want a unit that can control timing. Thing is if these "mods" did nothing why am I making more power than a V8 at the wheels?
 
Okay so question answering time.

BOTH 4Runner are 100% Identical minus mods. Both are 2wd, both have highway miles and well kept.

Also, for you who said it was a driver's race? At one point I manually shifted it as my brother left it in drive. Therefore I got the jump. So I led him, however I did NOT pull at ALL. the space between us was the same till the limiter hit.

I dont care what is said, what I am saying is for everything that was done I expected at least a SLIGHT pull on my 4Runner during one of those runs, but both were EQUIVALENT on all 3. That's what my issue is.

But yes, the 4Runner does sound good. haha!

Though I am sure they appreciate you helping the economy.

Also, your "shifting".. HAHAHA. Come on. You don't have paddle shifters nor is your transmission tuned to really respond the way you think it should.

The 4runner has an electronic throttle response and I learning computer that attempts to "determine" your want based on pressure.

Spend your money, but take this as some serious research into not wasting your money.
