Interior Dog Protection (rhino lined panels and not just carpet?)

So I have seen at least 2 others (TOYSTRY and another member) use truck bed liner to protect the interior of their 4runners from their dogs. I plan on lining the floor in the rear and the back of the seats just as TOYSTRY did, but I want more coverage for the sides. Puppy claws seem to do a number on ABS plastic and a kennel is not an option as of now. My questions for the board would be...

1. Has anyone ever tried to rhino-line the rear panels, such as the ones that cover the wheel wells heading up towards the glass?

2.What potential issues can anyone imagine arising from attempting this? I realize I would have to work around speaker ports/electrical outlets, ect, but if I could tape them off or something it seems like it might work. What else should I consider? The holes to reinstall everything and make sure the panels can be pulled out later if necessary?

I will take any info you guys have, I have done so much searching that I am going insane, and still have yet to see anyone do this. I have seen the outside of cars as well as entire floor pans but never really inside trim. There is a wealth of knowledge on here, and I will be able to take my 4Runner to a level that I could only imagine with this forums help. Thanks in advance!

Maybe I am just cheap, but I just let those panels get beat up. I threw a Weathertech liner back there and haven't thought of it since. It is cheaper to just buy new panels if needed when it comes time to sell it than it is to Rhinoline then and risk the next buyer not wanting that.

I pretty much agree with Brock. Unless you like the look of bed liner I'd just leave them.

I bought a trunk liner that blocks the back of the seats and has sides that stand up to offer some protection there as well.

I bought a CanvasBack set and have been happy with it. It won't protect the plastic pieces though. I would say just let them get torn up and replace when needed.

Although I am completely new to the T4R platform, my experience with other vehicles is that interior pieces are anything but cheap. I can get them rhino lined for $150 or so, there is no way new panels will be that cheap.

As far as looks go, I do think that it gives the vehicle a rugged look, so yeah I guess I do like it.

For resale value, by the time I see this truck it will be over 120,000 miles (minimum) and probably be a good fit for a high school or college kid. Of course they will love the upgraded stereo and rhino-liner lol!

Mace, do you have any pics of this installed? I am interested to hear your thoughts on it as well. I am anal retentive and I have found a few custom canvas wraps but they just destroy the professional look of our beautiful cars IMHO. Never really heard about this one though...

I will take some pics when I get home from work today. It really isn't an elegant solution, just convenient for my needs. Think of it as a glorified plastic box missing the top and one side.

I'm going to try installing some 5mm rubber flooring. It's quite rugged, easy to clean, and should protect quite well. I'm not sure how I'm going to affix it to the back of the seats and slider tray yet. Maybe Velcro or double-sided carpet tape.

So I just went by and talked with Shane a GM at Bullet Liner (Line-X's newer brother) and he was EXTREMELY helpful. Gave me some very reasonable prices on the full spray of the rear and we discussed spraying the rear panels as well. His main concern was that the product was not designed to stick to plastic. He showed me where he has sprayed his plastic bumper on his truck and where it had started to peel from when he attached a trailer incorrectly. I was very pleased with his honesty and the quality of the product that I saw.

Shane said that the edges would be the areas of main concern with the product on plastic. I dont really see my dog clawing at the edges, really just added protection for when she moves around. I am considering having the panels sprayed anyway and just see how it turns out. If it does in fact come off the plastic, well I tried. If not, awesome! Does anyone happen to know how much replacement panels would cost if it all comes off?

I will try to update this thread whichever way I go, that way it might serve as another bit of info for members who find themselves in my situation. Im still loving this board, so many helpful people/write-ups.

jam23r1, I know someone else used a DIY kit on here as well. I saw some pics of it and it looked functional, but I am generally OCD about how things turn out. I just dont have the experience to end up with a finished quality project such as the pros can produce. If you do go this route, let us know if the adhesion to the plastic is what you were hoping for, I am curious myself.

Here are two quick photos I took. One thing you'll notice is the towel sticking just above the liner on the right side. I threw a towel on each side to keep the liner from rubbing against the plastic. Also the plastic is very shiny and marks up fairly easily.

One of my dogs is a maniac in the car, he gets so excited its not good for us or him. So I bought two of those side by side travel crates. Two of them fit perfectly in the back- I put down the seats and there's plenty of room. Usually I have the crates closer to the front, but in these pics we had some baggage between us and the dogs.

You've already seen my post and I just PM'd ya but in short, it doesn't help much for keeping my pup from sliding but it's great for cleaning up. I added the Kurgo bed and he doesn't slide at all anymore (the bed has a rubber bottom and cloth top)

Where did you get your Kurgo bed? I have a 8 year old lab that needs some good padding in a bed, do the Kurgo beds come padded enough, in your opinon
