let's say i am driving down the road and someone drops something in the back seat. how can i turn on the interior lights of the car w/o having to open my front door? i know there is a dimmer switch to the left of the steering wheel and in most cars when you turn the dimmer past the 100% it'll click and turn on the interior lights. is there such thing with the 4R? how do i turn on all interior lights?

usually i just reach back with my right arm and flip the dome light switch from door to on.

so pretty much you are all sayin that there aint no way of turnin on all the interior lights with the flick of a switch of turn of a knob? there has to be a way! and i dont mean opening the front door cause i do drive a lotta freeways!

Reread NoDak's post.....that's a flip of a switch.

One thing I wish were different was that the map lights (near the rear view mirror) would come on with the mid and rear dome lights. Would definately help the vehicle's interior lighting.

:iagree:

Can't turn 'em on?

I've owned four Toyotas since 1996 and they all have lousy arrangements for interior lighting compared to American designed vehicles. :cursin:

Learn to live with it for the rest of yor vehicle is a Toyota and will far outlast anything with good interior lights.

That's not a flip of the switch???

well technically your are only turning one light on. he is asking is there a way to turn on all the lights than come on when you open the drivers door.

like the old dash mounted pot switches that controlled the dash brightness, and at the top end of the pot, it switched all the interior lights on (aka 2nd gen runners).

Is there any way to get the front lights to turn on when you open you doors with the remote? I don't understand why Toyota did not make them go on when the doors are opened.

:iagree: Mark86.

That is completely stupid. I for one enter my Runner at the driver's door which is conveniently located at the front of my vehicle. I'm just too old to go in through the back and climb over the seats like I used to. Therefore, I too, would like my front dome/map lights to come on when I open the door.

My Runner still beats the crap out of the Blazer POS it replaced.

Yes. My light in the back and the one in the liftgate area are all turned to the door position.

Mark,

There might be something wrong. Mine all come on when I hit the unlock button on the remote. They also all come on when any door is open. Mine is a 2003 Limited, but the 2003 SE I test drove did the same.

Do your lights in the front by the rearview mirror go on when you unlock or open a door? I only have two lights go on: the one in the liftgate and the one in the back.

I just went to double check, and guess what, they don't. I thought they all did. The lights in the dorrs come on, so maybe that gave me the impression they all where on.

The lights on the overhead console, near the rear view mirror are map lights, and as far as I know, the only way to turn them on is to depress them. Once for manual on, once again for manual off.
