Intermediate Positions on AC Dial

Several of my past vehicles have had something like this and the 4runners are no different. What does the AC do when the selector is in the positions indicated by the arrows? There is an obvious click in between each picture where the dial is aimed at the dots and I’ve never known what they’re for.

I believe they are just as you posted in your thread title, they are intermediate settings. For example, I find the 3rd setting from the left which I presume to be a 50/50 split between dash vents and foot well, to be too weak on the dash vents (especially if the rear seat vents are open). I always find myself putting the dial on the second setting from left, perhaps a 75/25 split.

Thread derail: does anybody else's wife use the a/c to run heat in the winter? Drives me bonkers. Not talking a humid cold either.

um... :notsureifserious:

left arrow - air going to feet and windshield with most going to feet
right arrow - air going to windshield and feet with most going to windshield
