Introduction: New to forum, bought a 1999 4runner limited.

Hello, new to the forum, not new to vehicles, but am fairly new to 4x4s and SUVs.

Had an 2001 toyota highlander v6. the thing was awesome, it did its job and it did it well, until a left turner made it into this:

I bought a 1999 4runner limited as a grocery getter. Yes, this will see little to no offroad except for the poorly paved back alley it goes thru for roughly 100ft to get to the garage.

My other daily, yes, daily, and project, and well, money pitt. (complete contrast)

So far, lovin the car, it was a good decision as a replacement for the highlander. not exactly the best on gas, nor is quick off its feet, but non the less, awesome car.

and yes, as soon as i got her, i couldnt leave her stock.
I had upgraded my stereo in my GS, and was going to put this double din in the highlander... fit just as nice in the 4runner (cept the shifter is just a 1cm too tall for the screen to open out to swap discs when the car is in park)

learned the stock headunit uses a mini amp, so good thing had experience with that issue and bypassed it easily.

Back Up camera, not aimed yet. may relocate to the top of the rear tail gate to get a wider angle. but helps a lot.

I put winter tires on the oem 16s, so managed to find a set of these for the car. 16x8 +10. actually makes the sit more flush to the limited's fender flares.

Latest project
oem depo headlights, retrofit hidsource bixenon projectors w/ e46 shrouds.

I worked in aftermarket before, so doing all these retrofits and or projects are just stuck in you.


Whats next? replace the upper rad hose, do the valve cover gaskets, install the trailer hitch (gives an excuse that i can get something to tow now )

Looks great, any chance you could show a pic of where you have the backup cam monitor mounted? I have one myself but the installation looks tricky and finding a spot to mount it looked even harder.

that was actually the purpose of the pioneer z2. the oem headunit deck was already missing some spots on the display, the lcd was shotty. i used the oppurtunity to install my old deck, the z2. it has a back up camera input function. installed the camera on the rear trunk lid next to the license plate, ran the wire inside the trunk lid, down and under the rear window regulator, up and along the side the trunk lid to the main junction wiring harness. that was actually the hardest part. then through the inside of the body, along the edge where the roof headliner meets the side a/b/c pillar cover trims.

That's a pretty snappy headlight setup. I'd love to see some light pattern shots.

just installed them last night, and aimed them last night, forgot to take a picture. but the pattern is the standard _____/-------- type cut off. the projectors are the ones from hidsource, so being bixenon, there's a diode (i think thats what you call it) that pulls down the metal plate that creates that beam pattern to create the high beam effect.
