I cut a cardboard curve profile of the front grille and headlights right above where the bumper wraps around and took measurements of that curve and put it into solidworks. My genius scares me sometimes. I wish my 4Runner had 35's like my solidworks 4Runner.

Went to Kansas Rocks today for their creepy crawl event. We met up with a group of FJ's from KC. My new phone took some stupid good pictures.

Builds looking great man! Love how the skids and rear tire carrier turned out, great work! Did you do all the welding? Welds look great, What are you welding on? I recently learned this past year and love it, I've been putting my welder to great use on the rig!

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm using my grandpa's Hobart 140. Seems fine for what I use it for anyway. It is really nice to do your own welding isn't it? Just takes some practice.
For my next set I'm leaning towards 35's. MT/Rs would be nice but it could just be a "craigslist special". Something that can handle some sharp rocks better than the Duratracs. I don't think new tires will be for a while though. I'm a broke college student until I graduate in May.

Awesome man that's the same welder i picked up last year and it's been great! I've been learning over the past year and can lay a pretty nice bead now, it really all depends on what i'm welding( quality of material) and what position your welding in (upside down sucks lol) It can handle welding thicker stuff pretty good when you crank it up. I just did my rear bumper using it, i just went up to 0.35 wire and it made a huge difference from before when i was using the 0.24 But yes man i love welding my own stuff now!
The MT/Rs are great tires man! I just picked up mine in the beginning of the summer and also got a killer deal on CL. I was going to run 35's as well but i just couldn't pass up on the deal, I got all 5 305/70r17s for $800 with only a few thousand miles one them, their technically 34''s so not to far off. So CL is definitely the way to go! But man these tires are awesome! I got to really test them out last month on a 5 day trip we did and couldn't be happier with them! They gripped the shit out of everything and all my buddies where super impressed the way they kind of molded over the rocks, good on road and the stiff sidewall actually makes it ride more like a truck (how it should ride IMO) The only negative I've heard is that some people have issues balancing them because they are a heavier tire also because of the Kevlar i think. I brought them to my buddy who works at a dealership and he used a road force balancer and got them all done though NP..

I'm really eager to weld up my front bumper once I find time to mock up cardboard first and find somebody to bend the tubing or try it myself with the bender at work.
A week ago I found 4 35" Baja claw radial mt's with 10k miles on them for $500 in a town nearby. Still thinking about them but I would like to get a few more miles out of my duratracs as they were basically free from my brother.

That will be sweet man! I know i want to get a tube bender also so i can start messing around and fabbing up some cool stuff.
Yeah i mean if your not in a rush man then just keep an eye out until you find a really killer deal on a set you want. Mid as well get all the miles you can out of your current tires. The only reason i jumped on the ones i came across because i sold mine for the same price after running them for a couple of years and putting over 30k on them so it was a win win!

No, mine are still silver. I kinda like the 3 tone look it gives. Haven't thought seriously about painting, dipping, or wrapping it.
I would also have to paint the roof rack if I wanted all the silver gone.
